LITTLE HADHAM: The thunderous sound of
pounding feet shook the village when runners took their part in a fun run in
memory of tragic teen Caroline Johnstone.
Almost 250 people of all abilities, from serious
runners to families in fancy dress, took part in the race on Sunday last
week to raise money for the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity.
Caroline, 17, who lived in Chapel Lane in the
village and went to Bishop's Stortford High School, died last year after
collapsing at a nightclub.
Her mother Lesley officially started the race from
the village hall at 10.30am with participants following either a 3-mile
(5km) or 6-mile (10km) route taking in the surrounding hamlets before
finishing at the Nags Head pub where a barbecue had been laid on.
All those who crossed the finish line were
presented with a certificate and received a complimentary drink.
the fun run was the first in a series of
activities included in the recently published Little Hadham Parish Plan and
organisers hope it will become an annual event. Although proceeds are
still coming in it is hoped it raised more than £1,000.
Dr Mike Smith, chairman of the parish plan group,
said: "It was a wonderful day and very well supported.
"There were a few sprained ankles and pulled
muscles but apart from that everyone had a great time."
