Following
on from the success of Bash on the Broad last year, Fermanagh Shadow Youth
Council is once again hosting a variety concert entitled “Pump it Up” on
Friday, October 28 at Mount Lourdes Grammar School. In a recent study carried
out by FSYC, over half of young people cited entertainment as their top
priority issue and many also recognised the need for inter-school and cross
community events.
FSYC is calling out for all
young performers to audition to take part in the concert. Auditions are
taking place on Saturday, October 1 in the Erne Room, Lakeland Forum from 10am
to 6pm.
Registration forms can be
obtained from Shadow Councillors and Delegates, through the schools or by
contacting the FSYC office (028 6634 3946 or e-mailing
info@fsyc.net. All types of acts including bands, singers, dancers and
drama group are invited to audition.
Proceeds from this year’s
concert will be going to the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). Local
student Richard Martin died last November with a cardiac related illness and
his picture has been on a postcard developed by CRY along with seven other
young people from Northern Ireland. This postcard represents that eight young
people die every week in the United Kingdom from cardiac related illnesses.
The Shadow Youth Council
wanted to raise money for a young people’s charity and felt this was the
perfect opportunity to raise awareness and remember the young people featured
in the postcard and their families. During the concert each of the featured
young people will be profiled so participants will be aware of where the
proceeds are going to and how they will help. FSYC have been fundraising to
raise money to host the concert by bag packing and selling their especially
commissioned wristband with the slogan Be Heard (available from Shadow
Councillors and Delegates and FSYC office.)
If you have a particular
talent that would entertain young people in Fermanagh, register to audition
and help FYSC Pump it Up for CRY and Fermanagh.
