SAVE OUR ATHLETES!

CRY to launch 5 year athlete cardiac research project to help understand the causes of Sudden Cardiac Death

Cardiac Risk in the Young is launching the Save Our Athletes Research Project, a 5 year inclusive athlete cardiac research study lead by CRY, involving data from the USA and Germany. By concentrating on all elite athletes, CRY will be able to gain a broader understanding of the effects of heavy and light exercise on the heart.

 

 

David Walliams launches Heart Screening Partnership with Philips and CRY

Philips and CRY have launched The Heart Screening Awareness Partnership, designed to help families understand the simple steps involved.  David Walliams has supported this launch by appearing in a short film designed to show young people that the screening process is not a scary one.

All Party Parliamentary action on SADSAll Party Parliamentary action on SADSCRY in Parliament

CRY works closely with a number of MPs to try and improve awareness of sudden cardiac deaths in young people.  This has resulted in the creation of the CRY All Party Parliamentary Group (currently 107 members), and the proposal of the Cardiac Risk in the Young (Screening) Bill which was the catalyst for new NSF guidelines.

Brentford FC announce innovative new partnership with CRY

CRY is proud to announce an innovative new partnership with Brentford FC (whose manager is CRY Patron Andy Scott) who are donating the secondary sponsorship of their away kit to CRY for the 2008/09 season.  For matches where the team are in their away kit, the CRY logo will be displayed on the backs of the players' shirts.

CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 – 10th to 18th October 2008

We are looking for supporters who will help to raise awareness of CRY in their local community by manning information stalls; organising fundraising events; giving talks; distributing CRY posters and so on.  We are also looking for at least 20 volunteers for a Parachute Jump Day (contact us by 21st August for parachute info)

CRY International Conferences on Young Sudden Cardiac Death

The CRY International Conferences will take place on 10th - 11th October 2008.  The conferences are endorsed by the BCS and CPD accredited (6 credits per day).  Agendas for the day have been confirmed and can be seen here

New Secretary of State "kicks off" CRY initiative to help young footballers

The Secretary of State for Media, Culture and Sport - Andy Burnham MP - joined CRY families whose children or partners died suddenly whilst playing football, to raise awareness of sudden cardiac death in the young at a launch at 11 Downing Street.

CRY Heart of London Bridges Sponsored Walk - 20th July 2008

Following the success of CRY's inaugural Heart of London Bridges Sponsored Walk in 2007, the event took place again in 2008. CRY Patron Kathryn Harries once again led the walk, crossing 8 London bridges.  Over 600 CRY supporters took part in the event.  Photos now added!

New labs 'promise' answers for hundreds of bereaved families

The agonising wait endured by many families following the sudden – and tragic – death of a child or partner could soon be over as London opens the UK’s first ever ‘fast-track’ pathology laboratories to help analyse the causes of unexpected cardiac death in ‘apparently’ fit and healthy young people.

'Silent at Heart’ art project wins three awards at the Cardiac Nursing Awards 2008 The 'Silent at Heart' art project won three awards for the South East London Cardiac Network at the Cardiac Nursing Awards 2008.  Dr Sanjay Sharma was heavily involved with the project, and was present to collect the prestigious awards.

Inquest into the death of Kasia Ber

John and Diane Ber have released a statement following the Inquest into the sudden death of their daughter, Kasia.  An ECG carried out 11 days before she died showed that Kasia had Long QT syndrome, but the diagnosis was not made.

CRY supporter Julie Tanner wins Diana Memorial Award

We are delighted to announce that young CRY supporter Julie Tanner has won a Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for Young People, in recognition of her efforts in compiling the book "101 Reasons (at least) to Get Up in the Morning" which was launched in November 2005.

"All sorts of things crossed my mind but after thorough investigations at the scene it was confirmed nothing was suspicious about the way Ronnie died.  It is not known whether he felt dizzy and fell to the floor then slumped or whether he was already on his knees maybe swishing the bath water before getting into the bath"
