Pupils at a Sittingbourne junior school let off
almost 400 balloons to raise money in memory of a boy who died suddenly two
years ago.
Football fan Adam Payne was just eight when he
died from an undetected heart condition, leaving his parents Nick and Monia
and younger brother Liam devastated.
Adam was a pupil at Minterne Avenue and several
events have been held in his memory.
But the balloon launch could be the last as Adam's
school friends prepare to leave for secondary school.
They include Jack Bean and Harrison Rook who wrote
a joint letter to fellow pupils asking them to pay £1 each for the balloons.
They said: "Adam will always be missed but before
we move on to our new schools we would like a final time to support and
remember Adam and his family."
All money raised from the launch will go to the
charity CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Adam's parents, who live in Westerham Road,
Sittingbourne, are campaigning for all children to receive compulsory ECG
checks, to avoid another family losing a child.
Mrs Payne said: "We had tears in our eyes as the
balloons went in to the sky.
"We would like to thank everyone involved for
organising it in aid of CRY."
