Friends join race in Jack's memory

Kent Messenger -  27th February 2009

Can you help two young men in their quest to raise money for charity in memory of their friend?

Michael Hutton, 18, and Alex Wharton, 19, are taking part in the Reading Half Marathon, on Sunday, March 29, in honour of Jack Maddams, who died from a rare heart condition at his home in Wigmore last year.

All three teenagers attended the Rochester Math School and Michael used to play rugby with Jack.  So far, the duo have raised £220 through sponsorship for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) which the Maddams family have supported since Jack's death.

Michael's old primary school, All Saints' in Wouldham, has offered its support by holding sponsored events.

Michael said: "Jack was a very god friend and his death came as a big shock.  Alex and I wanted to do something in honour of him and as he loved sport we felt this was the right thing to do."
