A crusading mum has reached her goal of raising
enough money to fund vital life saving equipment.
Ruth Lowe's son Andrew Parr collapsed and died on
a night out at Tokyo Jo's club in Preston in 2004, aged just 21, victim of
un undiagnosed heart condition.
After his death Mrs Lowe, 50, of Woodplumpton, set
up a memorial fund to buy an ECG machine to spot problems similar to
Andrew's in other people.
She said: "It has been our aim since Andrew's
death to raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death and to hold a Cardiac Risk in
the Young (CRY) mobile ECG screening event in Preston for people aged 14 to
35 in memory of Andrew.
"We have now successfully raised over £12,000, our
target, and are holding our first event."
Nationally, at least eight apparently healthy
young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions every week.
"There are often no symptoms, and ECG screenings
could save many lives by detecting heart defects.
Mrs Lowe added: "If Andrew was here he would be
urging people to be screened.
"I can't change what's happened, but I can help to
perhaps save someone else's life."
CRY hold a mobile ECG screening at Preston
Grasshoppers Rugby Club next February. There is a consultation at
Marriott Leisure Club, Garstang Road, Broughton, on Wednesday, December 6,
from 5pm.
Anyone who like to be screened should call Ruth or
Dave Lowe on 01772 691174 or visit Ruth at the Marriott Leisure Club to
collect forms and further information.
