Players young and old knocked around the clock at Burnley Tennis Club for charity.

The 24-hour marathon took place to help raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and also in memory of former ladies captain Vicki Taylor who died suddenly three years ago at the age of just 49. 

The day-long event, which ran from 9am to 9pm included indoor activities. 

The juniors kicked off proceedings with a tie break competition and played a total of 100 matches - beating last year's record of 78. 

An East Lancashire Tennis League match between Burnley 'D' and Burnley 'E;  was incorporated in to the event while a floodlit mixed doubles competition was also held and was won by junior pair James Dentson and David Taylor who entered to help make up the numbers. 

Evening and early hour activities were transferred to the club house where players put their signing and general knowledge skills to the test in a Karaoke and quiz while a Nintendo Wii table tennis an darts competition wrapped up proceedings. 

Organisers are hoping to top the £1,000 raised from last year's event. 

"We have so far received £200 from donations along and that does not include sponsor money," said Club captain Iain Taylor, the husband of Vicki.  "So we are confident of raising more money than we did last year." 

Iain was playing tennis with Vicki when she suddenly collapsed at Clitheroe Tennis Club on August 13, 2006 at the age of just 48-years-ld. 

She turned 49 while in hospital but sadly passed away in the November. 

The club decided to raise funds in Vicki's memory for CRY which does vital research into heart disease and one such strand is Long QT syndrome - a condition that can cause sudden death and the primary reason why Vicki collapsed and passed away.
