Walkers and bowlers raised an amazing £8,500 for a charity which helps young people affected by heart disease.

Members of the Lodge Hopetoun St John, supported by Lodge Camelon, raised the money for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Whitecross lad David Cochrane. 

He died a few years ago as a result of an undetected heart problem. 

In total 75 walkers from the age of 10 to 73 braved appalling weather to trek from The Falkirk Wheel to Linlithgow Bridge, and more turned out for a bowling tournament at Linlithgow Bowling Club.

In the winning rink, skipped by Margaret Deans, were Scott Murphy, Graham Bell and Davie Wilson,.  The trophy for 'The Worst Player of the Day' went to Norrie Austin, Master of Hopetoun St John. 

Last Friday the money was handed over to Shelagh Green, of CRY, who said: "CRY thanks both lodges and also the family and friends of the late David Cochrane for their very valuable support. 

"This money not only supports research, but allows CRY to give much needed support and assistance to those who have lost young family members." 

The organisers also thank The Brig Inn, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Linlithgow Bowling Club for their generous support.
