CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young, have announced that they will continue offering screenings in Londonderry. 

CRY held their first clinic in the city in February when over 70 people turned up. 

Following the success of that clinic, the charity has revealed that they intend to offer screenings at the Magee campus as well as Jordanstown for the foreseeable future. 

CRY representative John Lundy said: "We were very pleased with the response to our first clinic in Derry in February.  We felt that it was important to make the clinic accessible to people in the North West, especially those people that may not have found it easy to get down to Jordanstown." 

Jonn added: "There is a huge interest in sport in Derry City, and in the county with soccer, GAA and rugby and other sports.  Although we would encourage everyone to go for screening whether they are involved in sport or not, we would hope that most sports clubs would become aware of the screening programme and will encourage their members to come along." 

The cardiac screening, which is simple and only takes ten minutes, costs £35 but it is worth the cost says Jonn Lundy. 

We encourage young people to get screened.  We believe that screening can help save lives." 

This year marks the tenth anniversary since John's own son Aaron died from a cardiac condition. 

John says: "It is a terrible tragedy for any family to experience the loss of a child.  I believe it is important to make people aware of the clinics and give them the opportunity to get screened."
