The
money was raised during a steak barbecue fundraising event which took
place on 17th August at the Anglers and Fisherman's sporting club in
Ballinamallard, Fermanagh.
Approximately 100 people attended, each
buying BBQ tickets worth £10. The additional money was raised via
a raffle, three Dutch auctions, private contributions (including £100
from the club) and some proceeds from the sale of CDs (by the musicians
who performed on the night).
Raffle prizes included bottles of spirits,
gift sets, and several vouchers for meals, groceries and haircuts.
The Dutch auctions were for an antique plaque; a painting by Patrick
Maguire; and a day trip for 6 people on a Puffin boat.
It was a successful event, attended mainly
by family and friends of my brother Richard Martin, who died in November
2004 of WPW syndrome.
Special thanks to Margaret Conlon for
providing salad free of charge; and to Dessie Morrison for paying for
the entertainment.
