Michael Land

Our beautiful son Michael passed away on 4th February 2012 at the age of 28 years. Our lives will never be the same again. We are left devastated and heartbroken. We love Michael so dearly.

Michael burst into the world on 16th April 1983, a younger brother for Frazer. Michael was a kind, loving, devoted son and brother; and was such a loyal and caring friend and partner.

He was ambitious and loved sport – especially rugby. He played for many teams including Crofton, Keighley Cougars, Doncaster and York RI, where he also coached.

After finishing university with a BA Honours in Sport and Leisure Management, Michael travelled to America where he toured and taught rugby to the university graduates in Seattle. He had a fantastic time, but never forgot all his loyal friends and family back home. Michael also loved Castleford Tigers and Leeds United with a passion.

On returning from America, Michael settled down and set up his business ‘Yorkshire Fitness Hire’. He put his heart and soul into this business and Frazer (Michael’s brother) has vowed to do his best and keep the business going in Michael’s memory.

Michael had many talents. He was ambitious and had been shortlisted to appear on ‘Dragon’s Den’.

He was excited about this and keen to do well.

Michael called to see his Dad only two days before we lost him. He vowed to have another season of rugby – training was going so well and he looked so fit, well and happy.

Michael became engaged to Louise, the love of his life, in 2011. They were so very, very happy and due to marry in May 2013. It was on Louise’s 25th birthday, after a very special evening with Louise and friends, that Michael passed away. It was in the night that Michael’s heart stopped – Louise tried so very hard to save him, she could not have done more.

How such a big heart could stop for no apparent reason, we may never know.

Fundraising has already started in memory of Michael and we are so grateful to each and every one who has participated or contributed. The love from our family and friends has been overwhelming and a testament to what a lovely guy Michael is. He is truly loved and respected and we are overflowing with pride.

Michael we miss you and love you so very much. No words can ever explain the devastation we feel You will always be loved. You have not gone, we just cannot see you; and you will live with us in our hearts forever.

Mum, Dad, Louise, Frazer and all your family and friends
