Heart charity welcomes screening

Newtownabbey Times and East Antrim Times

6th April 2006

Executives of Cardiac Risk in the Young have welcomed a FIFA recommendation that all football federations should have their players screened for potential heart defects before the World Cup.

However, CRY warned that there is still "a long way to go" to save the eight young people who die every week from unexplained cardiac death - on and off the sports field.

Screening has been proven to be an effective preventative measure for reducing the number of fatalities in sportsmen, the charity points out.
