Top trials memorial for Martyn

North Devon Journal - 7th September 2006

Joe Baker, one of the West Country's top trial bikers, produced a top performance to claim the Martyn Luckett Memorial Trophy.

The Lynton biker topped a huge field to take the silverware at the motor cycle trials at Cudly Lane, Hartland.

The event was held in memory of talented motorcycle enthusiast Martyn who died suddenly from Myocarditis at the age of 19 lasts year.

Pictured are Martyn's parents John and Brenda Luckett and Joe Baker shaking hands with George Sartin of the trial sponsors Talon Engineering.

Each year, the Luckett family stage a motorcycle trials school at Lower Wembsworthy Farm where budding bikers come to improve their skills.

Now in its 14th year, the event attracted 65 riders of all ages who received tuition from nine experienced trainers.

Baker, who comes back to the school every year, was among the qualified trainers providing coaching on the two day course.

The traditional trial barbecue attracted 250 people and raised £1,500 for CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young.

On September 17, the Torridge District Motor Club host a charity trial at Hessaford Farm, Kilkhampton, when funds will also be raised for CRY.
