A Hartland family are going on a charity walk across eight London bridges in memory of their son.

Martyn Luckett died, aged 19, in July 2005 after suffering from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) which was caused by an undiagnosed heart condition. 

His mum Brenda, dad John, sister Charlotte and her boyfriend Andrew Henderson will be taking part in the Heart of London Bridges Sponsored Walk on July 20. 

Since Martyn's death his family have raised nearly £13,000 for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). 

The family are hoping part of the money will be used to screen youngsters from Martyn's former school, Budehaven Community College to detect problems. 

Each of the eight London bridges represent one of the eight fit and healthy young people who die suddenly each week. 

Last year more than 400 people took part in the six kilometre walk across both Golden Jubilee bridges, the Westminster Bridge, and the London Bridge.  

Brenda said: "We continue to do fundraising to make people aware of this condition. 

"What has happened to us is a terrible thing that has shocked us all, but we have to keep soldiering on and try to do something good for other people." 

Martyn was a star rider and took to biking aged four and went on to represent the South West in bike trials. 

Martyn's family have run an annual motorbike trial at Lower Wembsworthy Farm, for 16 years. 

They used to run the event, which will be taking place in August, in aid of CLIC, but after Martyn's death they decided to use the event to support CRY and their son's memorial fund. 

This year the trials will be taking place on August 8 and 9.
