North Devon Journal - 15th December 2006

By Jane Leigh

And finally, on a personal note, if giving to charity figures on your Christmas list, please consider looking at www.c-r-y.org.uk which is the website of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

I’d never heard of this organisation until September of this year when my nephew Jonathan died in his sleep, aged just 20. But since then I’ve found out that around eight  ‘apparently fit and healthy’ young people die every week in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.

Indulge me if you will, but I think the more people who know of this, and are aware that youngsters, particularly active sportsmen and women like Jonny, should be screened for heart problems, the better.

Have a look at the website, say a prayer for everyone who’s lost a loved one this year, spread the word about CRY – and have a Happy Christmas too.
