The
family and friends of a teenager who died after collapsing during a
cross-country competition are using pedal power to raise money for
charity.
Ashley
Livesey (15) died in March this year during the running event in
Stockport.
Now
30 of his family and friends, who make up Team Ash, are getting on their
bicycles to keep his memory alive.
In
July, Team Ash took part in the Manchester to Blackpool charity cycle
ride. After successfully completing the 60-mile route, they now
plan to go that little bit further.
On
Sunday, Team Ash is taking part in the Manchester 100 – a 100-mile ride
starting at Wythenshawe Park and taking in the Cheshire countryside.
Ashley’s
father, Gary Livesey, said: “We got such a good response to the last
ride and raised a couple of thousand pounds.
That will be split between three charities – Sudden Adult Death,
Cardiac Risk in the Young and the Carl Bridgwater Fund.”
The
family still don’t know what caused Ashley’s death and are waiting for
the findings of an inquest. The
youngster loved all kinds of sports and was very fit at the time of his
death.
Anyone
who wants to donate money can do at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Shaw. The account name is Team Ash, Account number 10020928 and
sort code 16-31-17.
