Event Write ups for Cardiac Risk in the Young


	Maybury Hillside Women's Group, fundraising in memory of Tom Clabburn - Throughout 2008 Maybury Hillside Women's Group held a number of fundraising events throughout 2008 to raise money for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.
	Big Heart Bike Ride in India - 15th to 25th November 2008 CRY was one of three heart charities to benefit from this fundraising cycling event in India.
	Notting Hill and Ealing High School Fundraising - 24th to 28th November 2008 A week of fundraising events took place at Notting Hill and Ealing High School to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.
	CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 Quiz - November 2008 On 15th November 2008, the winners were drawn for the CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 Quiz. The prizes available for tackling this fiendish quiz were holiday vouchers and a year's subscription to "Private Eye" magazine.
	Charity Halloween Fancy Dress Ball - 31st October 2008 Sue and Lisa Williams organised a charity Halloween Fancy Dress Ball to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of David and Steve Williams. The evening featured a 3-course meal, presentations about CRY, raffle and disco.
	Charity Ball in memory of Stuart Attridge - 31st October 2008 Rosemary Attridge organised a charity ball to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her son Stuart. The event attracted over 200 guests and was well supported by Stuart's friends and family.
	Home made cider tasting evening at Fylde Rugby Club - 25th October 2008 Craig McIntyre organised this event at Fylde Rugby Club. Seven different home-brewed ciders were on show, as well as a selection of fine cheeses and an enormous apple cake. Around 100 people attended, paying £1 for a tasting glass, and then donating 50p for each cider they wished to try.
	Raising Awareness Stall (Asda, Great Yarmouth) - 25th October 2008 Marilyn Cullum held a stall in the foyer of her local supermarket, to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her son Simon.
	Dolly Parton Night - 21st October 2008 Joseph Tanner organised a Dolly Parton Night to raise money and awareness for CRY. Joseph was keen to help CRY raise awareness after collapsing whilst running in March 2008 and subsequently being diagnosed with Brugada Sydrome.
	Charity Plough Match - 19th October 2008 The Curtis family organised a charity plough match to raise funds for CRY
	"Black, White and Diamonds" Charity Ball - 18th October 2008 Carly Sykes helped to organise a 'Black, White and Diamonds' themed charity ball, to raise money and awareness for CRY and Cancer Research.
	Charity rowing event in memory of Debbie Rendle - 18th October 2008 Mousehole Rowing Club organised a charity rowing event to raise money and awareness for CRY. The event was in memory of Debbie Rendle, a former coach at the club who died suddenly in February 2007.
	Raising awareness stall - 14th to 18th October 2008 Barbara Ingerfield organised a raising awareness stall in a local gym, as part of CRY's Raising Awareness Week.
	Raising awareness at St. Govan's Shopping Centre, Pembroke Dock - 14th October 2008 As part of CRY's Raising Awareness Week, Paula Otton held an awareness stall in St. Govan's Shopping Centre, Pembroke Dock. Paula was raising awareness in memory of Graham Button.
	Charity Skydive - 12th October 2008 Richard Abraham completed a charity skydive to raise money and awareness for CRY.
	Raising awareness stall - 10th to 16th October 2008 Mary Abraham held a CRY awareness stall at Marks and Spencers in Hedge End, Southampton; and also sold copies of the CRY Raising Awareness Week Quiz to people in the Great Hall, Winchester.
	Toy and cake sale at Little Ealing Primary School - 9th October 2008 Little Ealing Primary School held a second hand toy sale/cake sale on Thursday 9th October to raise funds and awareness for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.
	Charity hair cutting day - 5th October 2008 Jo Gates and Tamzin Langdon organised a charity hair cutting day to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Joe Langdon.
	Great North Run - 5th October 2008 Paul Moss ran the 2008 Great North Run to raise money and awareness for CRY, in memory of his good friend Adam Drawbridge.
	Raising Awareness at Sevenoaks School - 3rd October 2008 CRY County Represenative for Kent, James Brown, returned to his old school in Sevenoaks to speak to pupils about CRY and raise awareness of the dangers of undiagnosed heart conditions in young people.
	Kilimanjaro Climb in memory of Jack Rae - September 2008 Helen Brisco and Megan Rae climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for CRY in memory of Megan's brother Jack.
	Middlesbrough 10k - 21st September 2008 Emma McGough and Libby Forrest ran the Middlesbrough 10k to raise money and awareness for CRY, in memory of Paul Leach.
	Raising Awareness at King's College, London - 18th to 19th September 2008 Huda Hamid - President of the Cardiology Society at King's College, London - fronted a CRY information stand at the college's "Welcome Fair" event. The stand was successful both in terms of raising awareness of CRY, and in attracting new members to the Cardiology Society.
	London to Paris Bike Ride - 10th to 14th September 2008 Kate Piddington and Anna Morecombe tackled the London to Paris Bike Ride to raise money for CRY in memory of Kate's boyfriend Oliver Griffin who died suddenly in February 2008.
	Robert Lancaster Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot - 10th September 2008 100 shooters took part in this fundraising event in memory of Robert Lancaster. As well as the clay pigeon shoot, the event featured lunch and 2 auctions (regular and silent) - with some great prizes donated by various companies.
	Prism Architectural 3 Peaks Challenge - August 2008 Jonathan Simpson and colleagues from Prism Architectural completed the 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for CRY and for the Prostate Cancer Charity.
	The Great British Duck Race - 31st August 2008 Wendy Wright and Suzanne Dallas had a damp but enjoyable day at the 2008 Great British Duck Race - and were very successful in raising awareness of CRY.
	Raising Awareness at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals' Fun Sports Day - 15th August 2008 Pfizer Pharmaceuticals wished to donate some of the proceeds of their Fun Sports Day to CRY, and invited CRY County Representative Rosemary Attridge to attend the event and run a stall to help raise awareness of CRY.
	London Triathlon - 9th August 2008 Tom Brooks and Alex Unitt entered the London Triathlon to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of a former school friend of Tom's.
	Viola Challenge in memory of Harvey Hague-Armitage - July 2008 Christine Hague-Armitage asked friends and family to sponsor her for learning to play the viola. Christine was raising funds for CRY in memory of her musically gifted son Harvey.
	CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk - 20th July 2008 Following the success of CRY's inaugural Heart of London Bridges Sponsored Walk in 2007 the event took place again in 2008, with over 600 CRY supporters in attendance. CRY Patron Kathryn Harries once again led the walk, crossing 8 London bridges - each bridge representing one of the 8 fit and healthy young people (aged 35 and under) who die suddenly each week in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.
	King's College Abseil - 6th July 2008 A group of fearless CRY supporters took part in an abseiling event at King's College on July 6th, to raise money and awareness for CRY.
	London to Paris Bike Ride - 2nd to 5th July 2008 Shona Oxley completed this 285-mile cycling challenge to raise money and awareness for CRY. Despite suffering punctures and enduring hills, Shona enjoyed stunning scenery on the route and met lots of interesting fellow cyclists.
	Charity Golf Day - July 2008 Prism Architectural Ltd held their first ever charity golf day to raise money and awareness for CRY and the Prostate Cancer Charity.
	Great North Walk - 29th June 2008 Dawn Sanderson and Mark Brown completed the Great North Walk to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Kasia Ber.
	Adam Donnelly Memorial Ball - 28th June 2008 This evening event in Swanley featured a 4-course meal, wine, dancing and a charity auction. As well as raising awareness, over £6000 was raised for CRY, in memory of Adam Donnelly.
	Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle Ride - 14th to 26th June 2008 Mike Aylott and Adam Austin cycled 934 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats, to raise money and awareness for CRY, in memory of Mike's fiancee (and Adam's friend), Jane Starr. Jane died suddenly in May 2006 of an undiagnosed heart condition - later identified as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - aged just 33.
	Coffee morning in memory of Paul McGlynn - 14th June 2008 Joan McGlynn organised a fundraising coffee morning to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her son Paul. The event featured plenty of delicious cakes, plus a tombola, bran-tub and crafts.
	Race Across America - The World's Toughest Bicycle Race - 11th to 18th June 2008 The CRY Team of Richard Ball, Clive Middleton, Greg Whyte and Mat Wilson have successfully completed the daunting 3000-mile Race Across America (RAAM) cycle race and achieved their goal of a top 3 finish! 	South West Walk in memory of Robert Lancaster - 21st May to 6th July 2008 Graham Keene undertook this 630-mile walk in memory of Robert Lancaster, the son of good friends, who very sadly collapsed and died whilst skiing with his parents in 2007.
	Blackpool 10k in memory of Louise Worth - 11th May 2008 Matthew Atherton, Neil Skellam, Ian Wood, John Wild and Luke Wild ran the Blackpool 10k to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Louise Worth.
	Just Walk 2008 in memory of Matthew Reid - 10th May 2008 Karen Griffiths, Denise Roberts and Chris Smith-Page tackled a 60km sponsored walk to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Matthew Reid.
	Fundraising evening in memory of Cheryl Glassborow - 10th May 2008 Friends and family of Cheryl Glassborow enjoyed an evening of music, food and dancing, whilst raising money and awareness for CRY. The evening also featured a raffle with some great prizes donated by local people and businesses.
	Sponsored walk in memory of David Cochrane - 3rd May 2008 Lodge Hopetoun St. John No. 1232, a small Masonic Lodge located in Linlithgow, West Lothian, organised a 15-mile sponsored walk from “The Falkirk Wheel” to Linlithgow. This is the third year in a row that the Lodge has held fundraising events for CRY in memory of Lodge member David Cochrane, who died suddenly in 2006 aged just 22.
	"Stars in the Club's Eyes" and Family Fun Day in memory of Stevie Wiggins - April / May 2008 Money was raised for the Stevie Wiggins Memorial Fund within CRY, through two events held at Preston Grasshoppers rugby club - a "Stars in the Club's Eyes" talent show; and a Family Fun Day (the latter combined with a rugby match).
	CRY Tennis Tournament - 14th April 2008 Despite gloomy weather predictions, Haslemere Lawn Tennis Club (HLTC) held an extremely successful junior doubles tournament in aid of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) on Monday 14^th April.
	The Coyote Rally 2008 - 5th to 9th April 2008 The Stay Puft Appreciation Society entered the 2008 Coyote Rally to raise money and awareness for CRY. Driving an old Mercedes estate car, the team travelled 1486 miles around Europe in 4 days.
	Fundraising in memory of Richard Martin - 22nd March 2008 Supermarket bagpacking event to raise money for CRY in memory of Richard Martin.
	Charity Show in memory of Nathan Butler - March 2008 A grand charity show was recently held at Cobridge Coronation Club, Stoke on Trent, to raise money for CRY and Mencap. The show featured comedy, music and dancing, and the sell-out night was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.
	"Sponsored Groove" in memory of Charlie Morettes - 1st March 2008 On Saturday, 1^st March, 31 pupils at Grooves plus Hannah Holmes, the parent who nominated CRY, danced to a variety of tracks in front of a hall full of supporters. Some of the dancers were only 2 years old!
	Charity Night in memory of Kasia Ber - 1st February 2008 Bhana Baker organised a charity night to raise money for CRY in memory of her friend Kasia Ber. The evening featured a hypnotist; auction and a disco. The event was a great success, both in terms of raising money and raising awareness.
	"H-Fest" in memory of Harvey Hague-Armitage - 18th January 2008 An evening of contemporary music was held at Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of gifted musician Harvey Hague-Armitage. A range of musical styles were performed by talented students, and the evening was well supported by Harvey's friends and family.
