Event Write Ups - Balls and Charity Nights

These write ups show the enormous range of fundraising and raising awareness events that take place in aid of CRY.  They are a great source of ideas, and give a good indication of what various types of event involve.

Ealing Choral Society performance in memory of Tom Clabburn - 10th December 2011

Ealing Choral Society’s carol concert on Saturday 10 December at St Barnabas Church raised £4000 in aid of the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund, a local charity, which raises funds and awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), and organises free heart screenings in west London for young people aged 14-35.

An evening at The Engine Rooms Music Studios in memory of John Marshall - 15th October 2011
We held an evening in memory of my brother John Marshall at The Engine Rooms Music Studios where we had live music from 'The Takers' and 'Batteries Not Included' (which includes lead guitarist Michael Marshall!)

 

'Just Because'; party in memory of Camilla Irvine - 24th September 2011
A year ago last weekend, Milla died peacefully in her sleep from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. To remember her, and to thank all our friends and family for their continued support and kindness over the last year, we decided to hold a party ‘Just Because’ at home.

Fundraising evening in memory of Jamie Bucknall - 2nd September 2011
A charity evening at Lea Social Club, Preston, featuring live music, raffles, charity auction and a mystery special guest - raising money and awareness for CRY in memory of Jamie Bucknall.

Charity Night in Memory of Paul Wilkins - 15th January 2011

January 15th 2011 was a night to celebrate and remember the third anniversary and 25th birthday of a wonderful young man. 

Lancaster University Medical Students' annual Christmas Ball - 26th November 2010
Funds and awareness were raised for CRY at the Lancaster University Medical Students' annual Christmas Ball.  The money was raised in memory of Neil Darby.

Mardi Gras Theme Night in memory of Zoe Teale - 20th November 2010
A Mardi Gras Theme Night raised funds and awareness for CRY in memory of Zoe Teale.  The evening featured a steel band, dancers, fire eaters and a stilt walker.

Charity night in memory of James Anthony Read - 17th July 2010
Organised by James' partner, Collette, and sister-in-law, Allison, this charity evening feature a disco, karaoke, auction, raffle and surprise visit from 'Del Boy'!

'Hills Road Live Lounge' in memory of Caroline Johnstone - 10th March 2011
Raising awareness for C-R-Y Foundation and in particular 'Cazfest' in memory of Caroline Johnstone, 'Hills Road Live Lounge' was a showcase of music, art, photography and textiles organised by students at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge.

 

'Posh Frock and Black Tie' do in memory of Leanne Haddrell - 20th February 2010
Friends and family of Leanne Haddrell (left) enjoyed an evening of fine food, loud music and entertaining auctioneering to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Leanne.

Charity Quiz Night - 6th February 2010
Caroline Ramshaw and Jill Fellows organised a charity quiz night at Eastling Village Hall to raise funds for CRY in memory of local young man, Carl Dawson.

Charity night in memory of Paul Wilkins - 9th January 2010
Pam Oates reports on the second annual charity night in memory of her son Paul.  The evening featured a raffle with loads of great prizes; an auction overseen by Paul's dad, Steve; and a disco provided by Paul's brother, Mitchell.

Boat party in memory of Andrew Emery - 10th October 2009
Lisa Jenkins organised a boat party on the River Thames to raise funds and awareness for CRY in memory of her friend Andrew Emery.

Quiz night in memory of Simon McNamara - 5th September 2009
A quiz and supper night was held in Rolleston Village Hall on Saturday 5th September to raise funds for, and awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young - CRY.

City of London Police Awards and Charity Gala - 20th June 2009
CRY was chosen as the charity for the 2009 City of London Police Awards and Charity Gala, thanks to the involvement of CRY supporter Detective Inspector Steve Jackson.  This annual dinner dance is expected to have raised several thousand pounds for CRY.

Charity night in memory of John Marshall - 6th June 2009
Hayley Marshall organised an evening of music, comedy and top-notch raffle prizes to raise money for CRY in memory of her brother John.

Charity Night in memory of Paul Wilkins - 10th January 2009
Friends and family of Paul Wilkins attended a charity night in his memory.  The evening featured food, music and an auction with some great items up for grabs.  There was also a special guest appearance from 'Wilko' the trainee Police sniffer dog.

ownafilmcompany.com Launch Party - 8th January 2009
The launch party for the ownafilmcompany.com website was held at London's Oxygen bar on January 8th.  The evening featured an auction of movie memorabilia and a business card raffle, with proceeds donated to CRY. CRY information was also on display at the event.

Charity Halloween Fancy Dress Ball - 31st October 2008
Sue and Lisa Williams organised a charity Halloween Fancy Dress Ball to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of David and Steve Williams.  The evening featured a 3-course meal, presentations about CRY, raffle and disco.

Charity Ball in memory of Stuart Attridge - 31st October 2008

Rosemary Attridge organised a charity ball to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her son Stuart.  The event attracted over 200 guests and was well supported by Stuart's friends and family.

"Black, White and Diamonds" Charity Ball - 18th October 2008

Carly Sykes helped to organise a 'Black, White and Diamonds' themed charity ball, to raise money and awareness for CRY and Cancer Research.

Adam Donnelly Memorial Ball - 28th June 2008

This evening event in Swanley featured a 4-course meal, wine, dancing and a charity auction.  As well as raising awareness, over £6000 was raised for CRY, in memory of Adam Donnelly.

Fundraising evening in memory of Cheryl Glassborow - 10th May 2008

Friends and family of Cheryl Glassborow enjoyed an evening of music, food and dancing, whilst raising money and awareness for CRY.  The evening also featured a raffle with some great prizes donated by local people and businesses.

Charity Night in memory of Kasia Ber - 1st February 2008

Bhana Baker organised a charity night to raise money for CRY in memory of her friend Kasia Ber.  The evening featured a hypnotist; auction and a disco.  The event was a great success, both in terms of raising money and raising awareness.

Charity Night in memory of Ryan John Darby - 30th June 2007

This fundraising event featured a disco, buffet, and a raffle with numerous fantastic prizes.  CRY Representative Rob Thorne also spoke about CRY's campaign, and particularly its screening program.  The event was raising money and awareness for CRY in memory of Ryan John Darby, who died suddenly in 2006 aged 27.

Charity Greek Night - 17th September 2006

Fanos and Myroull Hadji-Michael held their annual charity Greek night at the Cypriot Community Centre in Wood Green, with proceeds from the event split between CRY and Cancer Research UK.

Annual Grand Charity Evening in memory of Levon Morland - 15th September 2006

Once again this event was a major success, with thousands of pounds raised for CRY.  Kevan Jones MP - Chairman of the CRY All Party Parliamentary Group - was also in attendance, to speak about the work of CRY.

Race Night in memory of Adam Donnelly - 20th November 2004

Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Social Club had a fun and noisy evening of fundraising.
