Event Write Ups - Golf Events

These write ups show the enormous range of fundraising and raising awareness events that take place in aid of CRY.  They are a great source of ideas, and give a good indication of what various types of event involve.

Charity Golf Tournament in memory of Howard Jennings - 10th September 2011
"The 15th memorial golf tournament held in memory of Howard Jennings took place at Bulbury woods
Golf Complex in Poole Dorset on Saturday 10th September 2011. It was a huge success raising a
fantastic £2,000.

The Ben Simpson Open 2011 - Selsdon Park - 17th August 2011
Joe Simpson organised this year's golf tournament in the memory of Ben Simpson at Selsdon Park Golf Club on Wednesday 17th August.

Golf Day in memory of Richard Waight - 19th May 2011

We had a very successful day at Doncaster Golf Club on Thursday 19 May, when the inaugural Richard Waight Memorial Golf Day took place. The event was organised to raise funds for two causes, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY and the Richard Waight Schools Golf Foundation.

The Ben Simpson Open - 7th August 2010
The Ben Simpson Open 2010 was held on Saturday 7th August at Farleigh Court Golf Club and was started with the inaugural one putt challenge, won by Michael Skinner.  A 31-strong field of friends and family turned out to remember Ben Simpson and support CRY for a sixth year running.

Charity Golf event in memory of Gregory Brookes - 2nd July 2010
Hayley Liepins of Rothley Park Golf Club organised a charity Golf event in memory of Club member Gregory Brookes (left), who died suddenly of SADS in October 2009.

Charity Skins Game in memory of Aaron Lundy - 18th September 2009
Charity golf event at Portstewart Golf Club, featuring Ryder Cup star Graeme McDowell, Irish PGA professional David Jones, Irish International and East of Ireland champion Paul Cutler and accomplished amateur Stuart Kyle.  The day also featured an auction and dinner.

Charity golf day in memory of Ben Simpson - 8th August 2009
This charity golf day was held at Farleigh Court, Surrey on Saturday 8th August and featured 28 golfers playing for the Ben Simpson Claret Jug.

Raffle and auction in memory of John Marshall - 9th May 2009
Hayley Marshall organised a raffle and auction at a golf weekend, to raise money for CRY in memory of her brother John.

Charity Golf Day - July 2008

Prism Architectural Ltd held their first ever charity golf day to raise money and awareness for CRY and the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Charity Golf Competition in memory of Kasia Ber - 23rd September 2007

The Unipres Golf Society had a charity golf competition at Maften Hall in Northumberland in aid of CRY and for the Kasia Ber Memorial Fund.

Charity golf tournaments in memory of Ben Simpson - August 2007

Every year the Ben Simpson Golf Society holds two charity golf tournaments to raise money for CRY in memory of Ben Simpson.  Ben died suddenly of an undiagnosed heart condition in October 2005, aged 26.

Captain's Charity Golf Day, Wimbledon Park Golf Club - 9th September 2006

A total of 88 competitors, all wearing distinctive red CRY baseball caps and including local MP Stephen Hammond and Roger Taylor MBE, enjoyed a sunny afternoon’s golf.  A further 30 guests attended a BBQ, raffle draw, auction and “Elvis” concert in the evening.

The 8th Howard Jennings CRY Memorial Trophy - 18th September 2004

64 golfers took part in this annual tournament in memory of Howard Jennings.  A good day was had by all, and the rain held off for nearly the whole event!

With 108 golfers, this the 5th Memorial Trophy was assured to be a hectic day. As it happened the weather also put us well and truly to the test. We raised £3,000 through golf fees, raffle, sponsorship and a silent auction.
