Event Write Ups - Miscellaneous Fundraising Events

These write ups show the enormous range of fundraising and raising awareness events that take place in aid of CRY.  They are a great source of ideas, and give a good indication of what various types of event involve.

Ballynure Village Fair - 19th & 20th June 2010
The Ballynure Village Fair 2010 featured all kinds of activities and attractions including craft stalls, barbecue, tug-o-war, rubber duck race, face-painting, live music and much more.  CRY was one of several charities to benefit from monies raised over the course of the weekend.

 

Waitrose (Stourbridge) "Community Matters" programme - July 2010
Waitrose in Stourbridge donated £430 to the Zoe Teale Memorial Fund within Cardiac Risk in the Young Charity.

Miscellaneous Fundraising, ServiceMaster Clean Newbury - June 2010
Staff at ServiceMaster Clean, Newbury, undertook various types of fundraising for CRY as a surprise wedding gift for their Managing Director, Nick Dee Shapland.  Nick lost his daughter Claire suddenly in 2005, and is now a County Representative for CRY.

Ashford-on-the-Map Fete & Bedfont and Feltham Carnival - 6th & 12th June 2010
Volunteers from the Heathrow Branch of Foresters held CRY stalls at the Ashford-on-the-Map fete and Bedfont and Feltham Carnival. 

Spring fete in memory of Graham Button - 22nd May 2010
The Button family organised a charity Spring fete in Chingford to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Graham Button.

Donation in memory of Niall MacLennan - February 2010
Mark from South Dakota and Vivian from New Zealand made a donation to CRY in memory of Niall MacLennan.

"Jeans for Genes day" in memory of Ronnie Armitage - 2nd October 2009
Sue Armitage organised a "Jeans for Genes day" to raise money for CRY in memory of her son Ronnie.

Fundraising Quiz in memory of Simon McNamara - 25th September 2009
Sue Wheeldon organised a Fundraising Quiz for staff at NHS Nottinghamshire County, to raise funds and awareness for CRY in memory of Simon McNamara.

Coffee morning in memory of Kasia Ber - 11th September 2009
Diane Ber organised a coffee morning to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her daughter Kasia.

Hawaiian garden party in memory of Kasia Ber - 4th July 2009
Friends and family of Kasia Ber attended a themed garden party and enjoyed lovely weather as they raised money and awareness for CRY, in memory of Kasia.

Book Sale in memory of Tom Clabburn - 24th July 2009
Tom Clabburn's mum, Claire Prosser, held her second book sale this year to raise money for the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund within CRY.

Book and cake sale in memory of Tom Clabburn - 16th May 2009
Friends and family of Tom Clabburn raised over a thousand pounds for the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund within CRY, by holding a book and cake sale in Tom's memory.

Year 9 and Year 10 students at Drayton Manor organised a cake sale to raise money for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.

Travel company Explore UK have made a £400 donation in memory of Tom Clabburn.

BBC TV news director Gordon Findlay raised funds at his place of work by making a "life and times" DVD about a retiring colleague, and selling copies for £5 each.

Maybury Hillside Women's Group, fundraising in memory of Tom Clabburn - Throughout 2008

Maybury Hillside Women's Group held a number of fundraising events throughout 2008 to raise money for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.

Notting Hill and Ealing High School Fundraising - 24th to 28th November 2008

A week of fundraising events took place at Notting Hill and Ealing High School to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.

CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 Quiz - November 2008

On 15th November 2008, the winners were drawn for the CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 Quiz.  The prizes available for tackling this fiendish quiz were holiday vouchers and a year's subscription to "Private Eye" magazine.

Toy and cake sale at Little Ealing Primary School - 9th October 2008

Little Ealing Primary School held a second hand toy sale/cake sale on Thursday 9th October to raise funds and awareness for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.

Charity hair cutting day - 5th October 2008

Jo Gates and Tamzin Langdon organised a charity hair cutting day to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Joe Langdon.

King's College Abseil - 6th July 2008

A group of fearless CRY supporters took part in an abseiling event at King's College on July 6th, to raise money and awareness for CRY.

Viola Challenge in memory of Harvey Hague-Armitage - July 2008

Christine Hague-Armitage asked friends and family to sponsor her for learning to play the viola.  Christine was raising funds for CRY in memory of her musically gifted son Harvey.

Coffee morning in memory of Paul McGlynn - 14th June 2008

Joan McGlynn organised a fundraising coffee morning to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her son Paul.  The event featured plenty of delicious cakes, plus a tombola, bran-tub and crafts.

"Sponsored Groove" in memory of Charlie Morettes - 1st March 2008

On Saturday, 1st March, 31 pupils at Grooves plus Hannah Holmes, the parent who nominated CRY, danced to a variety of tracks in front of a hall full of supporters. Some of the dancers were only 2 years old!

In the six months after Charlie’s death on 16th May 2007 at the age of 8, many fundraising events have taken place and we have managed with the help of friends to raise over £30,000.

Fundraising in memory of Daniel Young - December 2007

I work for Tesco and with the help of my colleagues we set about a fundraising event.  We all wore football shirts and had two days of collecting in store.  The customers and staff and played a big part in this.  Next we held a quiz night and local companies all donated prizes to be raffled, both events were a great success.

Friends and family of Richard Martin, who died of WPW in November 2004, have been fundraising for CRY in Richard's memory.

Friend's and family of Kasia Ber organised a Halloween Disco to raise money for CRY in her memory.

The Sebastian English Memorial Family Picnic - 9th September 2006

This, the second Sebastian English Memorial Family Picnic, was held at St. Michael's School in Highgate, London.  18 families attended, and enjoyed a barbecue and games for all the children.

Charity Line Dance in memory of Anthony John Child - 20th August 2005

The Child Family held a charity line dance event in memory of Anthony Child, and to raise money for CRY.

Inauguration of new Lord Mayor of Swansea - 13th May 2005

Mair Gibbs, the new Lord Mayor of the City and County of Swansea, has chosen CRY to be her charity.

Dress Down Day, Three Valleys Water - 10th March 2005

Staff at Three Valleys Water have a monthly Dress Down Day and nominated CRY as the charity to benefit from the proceeds. 

QT Kanga raising awareness of SADS in the UK

Ullapool screening
We have now screened 435 people in this area and would like to thank all those who have helped in any way.  We would  also like to thank all those who have contributed to the Joanne Fotheringham Memorial Fund over the years.

Whickham School fundraising week
We managed to raise an amazing £10,500, and this money was gained through a different array of activities and events.  We began on Friday 31st January doing an all day Asda bag pack, which raised £1500. This event went on for the entire day; I must say we had plenty of volunteers during the 9:10 to 3.25 slot!

Over the last 2 years we have been fundraising in Weymouth. Initially it started when we opened a shop and put a CRY tin on the counter together with a leaflet and badge (which was made by CRY on a design which Laura's Art teacher had drawn of a star rising from the water) ............

The first day dawned fresh and clear – Er well, actually, no it didn't. For the beginning of June, it was unseasonably cold and wet.  This was the culmination of our own personal marathon; we had been growing plants for months.  What had seemed like a good idea, had now turned into an uphill battle just to keep everything watered.
