These write ups show the enormous range of fundraising and raising awareness events that take place in aid of CRY.  They are a great source of ideas, and give a good indication of what various types of event involve.

Fundraising in memory of Mark Marden - 2011

"Throughout 2011, Pam Dickins, Kevin Blazer & the Marden Family have been fundraising for CRY, in Memory of Mark Marden, who sadly left us at the age of 18 and also for The Sick Children’s Trust for Kevin’s son who had a rare form of cancer when he was just 6 weeks old.

Kuwait English School decided to hold a Bake Sale and Non Uniform Day, at the end of November 2011.

Cardiff University Rowing Club Fundraising week in memory of  Jenny Bucknell - 10th to 16th October 2011
The past week has been fundraising week for Cardiff University Rowing Club. Having lost a former rower Dr. Jennifer Bucknell who passed away on 5th April 2011, at the age of just 23.

 

"Don't Cry" CD Launch - 7th October 2011

The launch party was held at The Jubilee Hall in West Rainton, County Durham and was attended by friends and family of Steve Percival and his band: Nick Phillips, Paul Stevens, Michael Wilkinson, Emma Callaghan, The bon Achord singers, Will Lang, Colin Nicholson, Bruce Macdonald Lowes, Barry Henderson, Jeff Morland, John and Elaine Lawler and Richard Rowley.

Lytham Ladies Circle Bag Pack - 24th September 2011
Members of Lytham Ladies Circle packed bags at their local M&S food store, to raise money and awareness for CRY.

Amy Rutter raised funds for CRY at her school fair in memory of Luke Rutter - July 2011

I decided to have a stall at the school fair selling my old books, toys and did a lucky dip. I had some friends to help me and we raised £106.48.

Fundraising in memory of Kevin Wilson - July 2011
St. Edward's College, Liverpool, continue to raise funds for CRY through a variety of activities including cake sales and sponsored events.  Their main activity however, is
a 'Light a Life' Appeal which takes place during Advent: those who have been lost are remembered with hearts which are displayed on trees which are lit up.

"Coffee morning at McGlynn's" in memory of Paul McGlynn - 18th June 2011
Another successful “Coffee Morning at McGlynn’s” - so-called although it tends to stretch into afternoon tea and then, for the staff, fish and chips for supper after the excitement has died down.

Charity Zumba Event in memory of Greg McFarlane - 15th May 2011

The charity zumba event in memory of Greg McFarlane went really well, the turn out was fabulous!!

 

Fashion Evening with Bonita of Tutbury in memory of Craig Salmon - 6th May 2011

An evening in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young has raised £2345 for the Craig Salmon Memorial Fund. The Catwalk & Canapes Fashion Show organised by Janette Prince, daughter Katie and Helen Walker featured fashion and accessories for the stylish lady from Bonita of Tutbury.
 

AUCB Leggit in memory of Nick Jarram - 18th April 2011

My name is Caitlin Mogridge and I attend the Arts University College in Bournemouth. Myself and a friend, Mell Oliver undertook a charity hitch hike on April 18th called 'Leggit' and we decided to raise money for CRY. We came to this decision for many reasons, but mainly because our coursemate and friend Nick Jarram sadly died of an undiagnosed heart condition in 2009.

"V in Pictures" Photography Exhibition - 9th & 16th April 2011
James McCauley has been the official photographer for the V Festival since 1995.  He has also been the official photographer at many CRY events, such as the annual CRY Parliamentary Reception at Westminster.  James provided a selection of images for the "V in Pictures" photography exhibition and also nominated CRY as the charity to benefit from sales of prints at the exhibition.

12 Hour 'Spinathon' for CRY in memory of Louise Worth
Phil Whitehead and Paul Weir took part in a successful charity 'Spinathon' held on Saturday 12th March 2011. 

Ministry of Justice London and Midlands Teams Charity Fundraising Day - 4th March 2011
On Friday 4th March 2011, it was the turn of the London and Midlands (non-Early Adopter) teams to run a charity fundraising day. The charity chosen was CRY as this charity meant a lot to one member of the team - Jordan Priestley - who lost his good friend Tom Reid to young sudden cardiac death.

DVLA Peterborough Office Fundraising for CRY

We had a great effort on this day and raised a total of £164.50 at the DVLA Local Office in Peterborough.

Foresters Heathrow Branch support CRY - Throughout 2010
A cheque for £1000 was presented to Rebecca Zouvani by John Carter, Charity Chairman, along with Vernon Elmes, President, of Heathrow Branch of Foresters at their February meeting.

University of Plymouth Sports Clubs; raising funds and awareness - Throughout 2010
Sports Clubs at the University of Plymouth supported CRY throughout 2010 with fundraising events - a Halloween party and booze cruise - and raising awareness around the campus.

Sapphire Systems PLC fundraising; quiz night, cake sale & bargain clothes sales - November 2010
Staff at Sapphire Systems PLC held a variety of fundraising events to raise money and awareness for CRY.

Angie & Jack Child, Ruby Wedding Anniversary - 31st October 2010
We have great pleasure in sending you cheques for the sum of £575, raised at both a linedance party for our friends and a family event, to mark our Ruby Wedding Anniversary.  We decided to have no presents as at our stage of life we have enough stuff to fill several houses over, so came up with the idea of raising money for CRY.

Tops Day Nursery, Portsmouth, Summer Fete - 28th August 2010
Jade Missing organised a Summer Fete at Tops Day Nursery in Portsmouth, to raise funds for CRY and Cancer Research.  The fete featured a puppet show, face painting, 'guess the weight of the cake' competition and plenty of nice things to eat!

'Beanie Babies' sale in memory of Philippa Harbour - 21st September 2010
Steve Harbour’s daughter, Philippa, who was a former pupil at Antony school, died from sudden cardiac death in 2003.  Philippa was an ardent collector of ‘Beanie Babies’ and Steve came up with the idea of donating the ’Beanie Babies’ to the children of Antony school who organised a sale to raise much needed funds.

Waitrose (Stourbridge) "Community Matters" programme - July 2010
Waitrose in Stourbridge donated £430 to the Zoe Teale Memorial Fund within Cardiac Risk in the Young Charity.

Miscellaneous Fundraising, ServiceMaster Clean Newbury - June 2010
Staff at ServiceMaster Clean, Newbury, undertook various types of fundraising for CRY as a surprise wedding gift for their Managing Director, Nick Dee Shapland.  Nick lost his daughter Claire suddenly in 2005, and is now a County Representative for CRY.

Ballynure Village Fair - 19th & 20th June 2010
The Ballynure Village Fair 2010 featured all kinds of activities and attractions including craft stalls, barbecue, tug-o-war, rubber duck race, face-painting, live music and much more.  CRY was one of several charities to benefit from monies raised over the course of the weekend.

 

Ashford-on-the-Map Fete & Bedfont and Feltham Carnival - 6th & 12th June 2010
Volunteers from the Heathrow Branch of Foresters held CRY stalls at the Ashford-on-the-Map fete and Bedfont and Feltham Carnival.

Tom's mum, Claire Prosser, organised a book sale to raise funds for CRY in memory of Tom.

Spring fete in memory of Graham Button - 22nd May 2010
The Button family organised a charity Spring fete in Chingford to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Graham Button.

Donation in memory of Niall MacLennan - February 2010
Mark from South Dakota and Vivian from New Zealand made a donation to CRY in memory of Niall MacLennan.

"Jeans for Genes day" in memory of Ronnie Armitage - 2nd October 2009
Sue Armitage organised a "Jeans for Genes day" to raise money for CRY in memory of her son Ronnie.

Fundraising Quiz in memory of Simon McNamara - 25th September 2009
Sue Wheeldon organised a Fundraising Quiz for staff at NHS Nottinghamshire County, to raise funds and awareness for CRY in memory of Simon McNamara.

Coffee morning in memory of Kasia Ber - 11th September 2009
Diane Ber organised a coffee morning to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her daughter Kasia.

Hawaiian garden party in memory of Kasia Ber - 4th July 2009
Friends and family of Kasia Ber attended a themed garden party and enjoyed lovely weather as they raised money and awareness for CRY, in memory of Kasia.

Tom Clabburn's mum, Claire Prosser, held her second book sale this year to raise money for the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund within CRY.

Friends and family of Tom Clabburn raised over a thousand pounds for the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund within CRY, by holding a book and cake sale in Tom's memory.

BBC TV news director Gordon Findlay raised funds at his place of work by making a "life and times" DVD about a retiring colleague, and selling copies for £5 each.

Maybury Hillside Women's Group, fundraising in memory of Tom Clabburn - Throughout 2008

Maybury Hillside Women's Group held a number of fundraising events throughout 2008 to raise money for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.

Notting Hill and Ealing High School Fundraising - 24th to 28th November 2008

A week of fundraising events took place at Notting Hill and Ealing High School to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Tom Clabburn.

CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 Quiz - November 2008

On 15th November 2008, the winners were drawn for the CRY Raising Awareness Week 2008 Quiz.  The prizes available for tackling this fiendish quiz were holiday vouchers and a year's subscription to "Private Eye" magazine.

A group of fearless CRY supporters took part in an abseiling event at King's College on July 6th, to raise money and awareness for CRY.

Viola Challenge in memory of Harvey Hague-Armitage - July 2008

Christine Hague-Armitage asked friends and family to sponsor her for learning to play the viola.  Christine was raising funds for CRY in memory of her musically gifted son Harvey.

Joan McGlynn organised a fundraising coffee morning to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of her son Paul.  The event featured plenty of delicious cakes, plus a tombola, bran-tub and crafts.

On Saturday, 1st March, 31 pupils at Grooves plus Hannah Holmes, the parent who nominated CRY, danced to a variety of tracks in front of a hall full of supporters. Some of the dancers were only 2 years old!

Fundraising in memory of Charlie Morettes - throughout 2007

In the six months after Charlie’s death on 16th May 2007 at the age of 8, many fundraising events have taken place and we have managed with the help of friends to raise over £30,000.

Fundraising in memory of Daniel Young - December 2007

I work for Tesco and with the help of my colleagues we set about a fundraising event.  We all wore football shirts and had two days of collecting in store.  The customers and staff and played a big part in this.  Next we held a quiz night and local companies all donated prizes to be raffled, both events were a great success.

The Sebastian English Memorial Family Picnic - 9th September 2006

This, the second Sebastian English Memorial Family Picnic, was held at St. Michael's School in Highgate, London.  18 families attended, and enjoyed a barbecue and games for all the children.

The Child Family held a charity line dance event in memory of Anthony Child, and to raise money for CRY.

Mair Gibbs, the new Lord Mayor of the City and County of Swansea, has chosen CRY to be her charity.

Dress Down Day, Three Valleys Water - 10th March 2005

Staff at Three Valleys Water have a monthly Dress Down Day and nominated CRY as the charity to benefit from the proceeds.

We have now screened 435 people in this area and would like to thank all those who have helped in any way.  We would  also like to thank all those who have contributed to the Joanne Fotheringham Memorial Fund over the years.

Whickham School fundraising week
We managed to raise an amazing £10,500, and this money was gained through a different array of activities and events.  We began on Friday 31st January doing an all day Asda bag pack, which raised £1500. This event went on for the entire day; I must say we had plenty of volunteers during the 9:10 to 3.25 slot!

The first day dawned fresh and clear – Er well, actually, no it didn't. For the beginning of June, it was unseasonably cold and wet.  This was the culmination of our own personal marathon; we had been growing plants for months.  What had seemed like a good idea, had now turned into an uphill battle just to keep everything watered.
