Event Write Ups - Unusual Events

These write ups show the enormous range of fundraising and raising awareness events that take place in aid of CRY.  They are a great source of ideas, and give a good indication of what various types of event involve.

Luke Dickinson Charity Three Legged Pub Stagger - 4th April 2009
Family and friends of Luke Dickinson took part in a three legged stagger around local pubs, to raise money and awareness for CRY in memory of Luke.

Home made cider tasting evening at Fylde Rugby Club - 25th October 2008

Craig McIntyre organised this event at Fylde Rugby Club.  Seven different home-brewed ciders were on show, as well as a selection of fine cheeses and an enormous apple cake.  Around 100 people attended, paying £1 for a tasting glass, and then donating 50p for each cider they wished to try.

Charity Plough Match - 19th October 2008

The Curtis family organised a charity plough match to raise funds for CRY

The Great British Duck Race - 31st August 2008

Wendy Wright and Suzanne Dallas had a damp but enjoyable day at the 2008 Great British Duck Race - and were very successful in raising awareness of CRY.

Viola Challenge in memory of Harvey Hague-Armitage - July 2008

Christine Hague-Armitage asked friends and family to sponsor her for learning to play the viola.  Christine was raising funds for CRY in memory of her musically gifted son Harvey.

Bungee Jump in memory of Paul Leach - 9th September 2007

Emma McGough, Adam Waite and Libby Forrest did a bungee jump off the transporter bridge in Middlesbrough, to raise money for CRY in memory of Paul Leach.

'Flight For Hearts' Departure - 30th July 2007

Consultant Cardiologist Nigel Wheeldon began the first leg of his epic round the world flight, departing from Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster, on 30th July 2007.

Charity Bungee Day in memory of Alex Roberts - 7th April 2007

The Brook Pub in Cambridge held a charity Bungee day to raise money for CRY in memory of Alex Roberts.  The day also featured a BBQ, raffle and evening disco.

Boxing Day Dip - 26th December 2006

Friends of Kasia Ber braved the cold waters of the North Sea to raise money for CRY in her memory.

Charity Pram Race - 26th December 2006

The Pramraceteam is an eclectic gathering of manhood, drawn predominantly, but not exclusively, from Chobham Rugby Club members.  This year, the team were raising money for CRY in the annual Boxing Day Pram Race organised by The Surrey Border Lions Club.

"The Dreaded Cut" in memory of Mike Scott - November 2006

After growing his dreadlocks for ten years, Danny bravely agreed to have them cut in front of a packed pub crowd!

Han Soo Kwan Taekwondo club, Sponsored Breaking Day - 12th February 2006

The Han Soo Kwan Taekwondo club in Burnley, held a Sponsored Breaking Day to raise money and awareness for CRY.  Over 200 pieces of inch-thick pine wood were broken by the students in the club.  The write up of this event also features video clips of some of the students in action!

Bishop Burton College Fundraiser - 3rd February 2005

Travel and Tourism students brought the British seaside to Bishop Burton College - complete with ice cream, 'Hook a Duck' and real donkeys!

Boxing Day Dip - 26th December 2004

Margo Wright and friends took a chilly dip in the sea at Redcar to raise money for CRY.


Who wants to be a millionaire Christmas Celebrity Special
Connie who plays the part of Kathy Bradshaw in The Bill played “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” Christmas Day for the Madeleine Jane Mulcahey Memorial Fund, held with CRY.

New Year Dip
After a 2003 New Years Eve party Richard, Sandy and Greg (CRY Chairman!) started 2004 with a dip into the Solent in Stokes Bay to raise money for CRY.

On Sunday 18th March the excited 8 met up for a magnificent 7 in the cafe before embarking on their challenge. They had 24 hours to get as far away from the Tesco store in Thetford, Norfolk with only £25 each to help them on their way.
