A
super-fit woman is gearing up to row a marathon for charity, on the day that
would have been her sister’s 22nd birthday.
Kyla Hanson is aiming to
complete a gruelling 26.2 miles on a rowing machine at her Market Weighton
home to help raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Her younger sister Jodie
died last year suffering a heart attack brought on by an undetected
condition. The Post reported that despite having no pre-existing medical
problems, the 20-year-old died in her bed suddenly.
The rowathon is the second
muscle-straining challenge 23-year-old Kyla will have embarked on for CRY.
Last year she rowed more than 500 miles over a two-month period and managed to
raise more than £1,000. Now she is hoping to complete her latest challenge in
just a few hours.
She said: “I thought if I
could do it all in one go I could get it out of the way!
“Because of the rowing I’m
doing pretty much every day I’m hoping to finish it within three hours if I
can.
“I’ve been increasing the
distance each time; the other day I did a half marathon and felt I could have
gone on when I’d finished it.
“It’s going to be
difficult to do the whole marathon but it’s a real challenge for me.
“There’s no quitting for
me though – it’s all in aid of a good cause.”
Kyla will be undertaking
her challenge tomorrow and anyone wanting to donate to the cause can call her
on (01430) 874050.
