A football cup competition held in memory of an 18-year-old who died on the pitch has raised hundreds of pounds for charity. 

The CRY cup, named after the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, was played at City of Portsmouth Girls school in memory of Edward Reading, who died from sudden death syndrome in 2007, playing a match at the Mountbatten Centre in Stamshaw. 

Edward's brother Sean started a six-a-side football league and cup competition in tribute to the keen footballer.  After battling through the group stages of the CRY cup, four teams met for the finals. 

After a tense semi-final and final, Kings of the New Road, emerged victorious and were presented with the trophy.  Sean, 26, of Panton Close, Emsworth said: "Well done to everyone who took part.  It's been a fantastic competition. 

"It was great to do this in memory of Edward, who loved football so much." 

Hundreds of pounds collected from match fees during the season will be donated to CRY.
