CRY Patron

Robert Jones MBE

"It goes without saying that I am both delighted and honoured to be given this opportunity to become a Patron of the charity CRY.  When Christiaan Smith, a seemingly healthy young boy from my home village of Trebanos died of Sudden Death Syndrome, the whole community were devastated.

I sincerely hope that my close involvement with the charity will help raise awareness and, of course, help to save the lives of many young people."

Cardiac equipment donated to Clydach Hospital - January 2004

The former British Lion and Wales scrum-half became a patron of Cardiac Risk in the Young after a young man in his home village of Trebanos suddenly collapsed and died.  But he did not think then that just 12 months later his cousin, Alun Jones, would also suddenly drop dead with a hidden heart defect, also known as Sudden Death Syndrome.

24-Hour Three Peaks Challenge - July 2002

Former rugby stars Robert Jones and Anthony Clement were part of the team, which trained hard to the event beforehand.  They were in peak condition. Team member Steve Rees said: “It was the most horrendous thing any of us had ever done.  The elements were against us and by the time we finished we had gone 40 hours without sleep. But it was worth it, and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored us.”
