Helping in the long run

The Rugby Observer - 13th January 2005

A nurse from St Cross Hospital is training for the London Marathon despite being new to exercise.

Sue Barnard, a 39-year-old cardiac rehabilitation nurse from Hillmorton, will be running for CRY which raises awareness of cardiac risk in young people and Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).

The charity also offers support to families of people who have died from SDS, operates mobile cardiac screening and is aiming to run pilot studies in schools.

The Ken Marriott Leisure Centre is sponsoring Sue and offering her use of facilities and personal trainer Lorna Harkness.

Sue, who is hoping to raise over £1,000, said: “I am lucky enough to have two healthy teenage sons, but I want to increase the profile of this charity locally.”

This year’s marathon takes place on Sunday, April 17.
