"I'd like to thank the rugby community as well as
a wider group of people for their immense support and fund-raising
activities following the unexpected death of my brother, Simon McNamara,
from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome last July, aged 25. Simon was a huge
sports fan, competitively participating in rugby, cricket, netball, tennis
and squash. Shortly before he died he also completed the Three Peaks
Challenge, raising money for charity.
Our family, friends and his girlfriend, Jen, have
organised sporting events in his memory, in the process raising money for
Cardiac Risk in the Young (www.c-r-y.org.uk).
My old club, Nottingham Moderns, kindly made a date available in their
season to play a tribute match against a Simon McNamara XV and this was
followed by a Durham University tribute. More events are planned and
money raised is vital for research as well as providing a focus , continued
fun and interaction between all those who knew and loved Simon."
