A football themed charity event will be held in
Altrincham to raise awareness of cardiac disease among young people.
The event is being held at Cresta Court Hotel on
February 28 in memory of Jonathan Leigh, who died suddenly at the age of
just 20 in 2005.
Jonathan, a keen footballer, played for Winterton
Rangers in Yorkshire. He was described as fit and healthy when he
died, and was not on any medication.
Gareth Brazendale, of Northwich, a close friend of
Jonathan, has organised the event. Proceeds will go to Cardiac Risk in
the Young (CRY).
Gareth said: "It was very sudden. Jonathan
was out with friends one night.
"He came home, and he passed away that night.
It came completely out of the blue."
The results of the post-mortem were inconclusive,
and Jonathan's family are awaiting further medical test results before the
inquest can be reopened.
Named in his memory, the Jonny Leigh Memorial Fund
has already raised more than £10,000 for CRY.
Jonathan was an Arsenal fan and Gareth is a
Liverpool fan.
The event will also raise funds for the Ray of
Hope appeal to support Ray Kennedy, the heavily-decorated former Liverpool
and Arsenal player who is currently suffering with Parkinson's disease.
The event will be a Liverpool/Arsenal themed
night, with a three-course meal. Former Liverpool European Cup winner
Allan Kennedy will be in attendance. Tickets cost £35 from Gareth on
07738 243 737.
