Dr Saqib Ghani

CRY Research Fellow

I completed my medical graduation (MBBS) from Dow Medical College (now known as Dow University of Health Sciences) in Karachi, Pakistan. In 2004 I moved to UK and started working as a junior doctor in medicine. I rotated through various hospitals in the Midlands and North West England thus completing my core medical training.

I obtained membership of Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2008.

My interest in the field of cardiology led me to a Clinical Fellow (SPR) job in Bath, after which I worked as a cardiology Specialist Registrar (LAT) in Southend-on-Sea for 1 year.

In October 2010 I took up my current Clinical Research Fellow post with CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). I am based at St George's University London, and am working under the supervision of Professor Sanjay Sharma at the specialist centre for Sports Cardiology and Inherited Cardiac Conditions.

My current research work is based on cardiovascular screening in young apparently healthy individuals and pre-participation screening in athletes using ECG.

I am also looking into the impact of ethnicity (e.g. Asians) on physiological cardiovascular adaptation to exercise.

I am a keen sportsman and in my spare time I enjoy playing cricket, squash, tennis, golf and snooker. I also enjoy socialising with friends and spending time with family.
