A charity fundraising day being held tomorrow in
memory of a young Shropshire student who collapsed and died suddenly while
working in a Manchester restaurant is aiming to raise £10,000.
Friends and colleagues of Becky Heathcote, 22,
from Blackbow Hill, Ruy-ton-X1-Towns, who died on November 6 while working
at Frankie and Benny's restaurant in Salford Quays, will be putting on a day
of activities, auctions and raffles from noon until about 8pm.
Becky's parents, Kate and Chris Heathcote, and her
two brothers, Ben and Bob, will be among hundreds of people expected.
Highlight of the day will be an auction, with many
of the lots having been donated by celebrities and high-profile
organisations in the Manchester area, including Manchester United Football
Club, Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Coronation Street cast.
Jonathan Mazfari, general manager of Frankie and
Benny's said: "We were all very shocked when Becky died. After the
funeral we got all the staff together and they decided they wanted to do
what they could for charity in her memory.
"We thought originally that we might raise about
£2,000 but it now looks as though it will be something like £10,000."
Charities to benefit include CRY - Cardiac Risk in
the Young, Centre Point housing charity for the young homeless people, the
Forget-Me-Not Trust and the Happy Days Children's Charity.
