The
Warminster-based Land Warfare Centre has raised £1,309 for the charity
Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
The centre organised coffee mornings, summer
barbecues, and an annual walk across Salisbury Plain and donations in jars,
and raised £309. A further £1,000 was given by Landmarc Support, the centre’s
strategic service provider.
The fundraising was co-ordinated by Bob Morris of
Defence Estates who works at the Warminster office.
Mr Morris was at school with Julian Wort, who died
from a form of Sudden Death Syndrome.
Since his death his mother Shirley Wort has helped
to raise thousands of pounds for CRY and established the Julian Wort memorial
appeal. Mrs Wort received the cheque on behalf of CRY at the Warminster
office.
Mr Morris said: “As someone who remembers Julian
from school, I was very pleased to see the results of a local trawl which
considered a number of charities and chose CRY.”
