The support I got was
fantastic. Most people couldn’t believe anyone would be crazy
enough to run in a costume, and some even said that to me. I just
replied, "It’s not that bad at all really, and I need all the egging on
and encouragement I can get!"
Once
I did it the first time, I don’t think I’ll ever want to run any event
without wearing one – I love it!
The smiles you get, the
reaction on peoples faces, it makes me smile all the way round. Although
I must say that I heard a lady say as I was passing with my big glasses
and cap on, "Oh look at that lady, I wonder what she’s dressed up as!"
And her partner said, “It’s a man dear….” !!!
Some - well, a lot of
others - said, “GO FOR IT MR TOMATO!” and I say, “Thanks, it’s a
heart!!”
Towards the end, the
last 800m, then 400, then 200 and your legs are like jelly but
everyone’s cheering you on - it was quite emotional really.
I saw the 3 Amigos and
said "Hi" and they said “Oh we’re running for CRY too!!” That really
made me happy, I felt like I’d bumped into a family member!
My 2 friends ran with me
this time as they’re new to it, but I’m doing the Great North Run and
Great South Run on my own. I enjoyed being no. 8887. Maybe next time
I’ll be 118 118!
