Teens get checked in Ben's memory

Bromley News Shopper – 21st November 2012

The memory of a Bickley schoolboy inspired more than 100 pupils to get screened for heart conditions. Aspiring sportsman Ben Daniels, 15, collapsed following a cardiac arrest while training with the Ex Blues football team in March last year. He died in hospital three days later.

His parents, Paul and Helena, set up the Ben Daniels Memorial Fund to raise awareness of sudden cardiac death in the young and fund screening programmes in partnership with heart charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). The latest round of screenings took place on November 13 at Ben’s school, Ravens Wood, in Oakley Road, Bromley.

Research shows every week at least 12 young people lose their lives to sudden cardiac death in the UK. Paul Daniels said it was an “important event for Ben’s Fund as well as for us as a family.” He added: “Ben was such a positive person, a role model and a real team player, which is why we will continue to work alongside CRY.”
