A grieving mum is holding a second fundraising
night in memory of her 21-year-old son who died suddenly last year.
Sue Ainsworth from Stockton wants to stop other
families from going through the same heartbreak as her's.
The 52-year-old midwife found her student son
Jonathan Morgan dead in his bed on the morning of April 11, last year.
She believes he died as a result of an undetected
heart problem.
In the 14 months since his death, family and
friends have pulled together to raise thousands in Jonathan's name, to pay
for heart screening for other young people.
Charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), estimates
that at least 12 young people under 35 die each week in the UK of cardiac
abnormalities.
The silent killer has been likened to the adult
version of cot death.
Sue, who is also mum to Rhiannon, 20, said: "It
does not get easier, you just learn to live with it and make the best of
what you have got.
"Any life that can be saved, it's worth it to save
a family through the same trauma."
Jonathan, a former Ian Ramsey School pupil, had
been due to return to Sheffield Hallam University, following an Easter
break, when tragedy struck.
Jonathan's memorial fund with CRY has so far
topped £8,000.
Half of this was raised through a fundraiser at
Fairfield Social Club last October.
One of Jonathan's university friends, Chris O'Hara
raised more than £1,000 for the fund by completing the Sheffield Half
Marathon on May 8.
Kevin Stephenson, 45, who works for Hartlepool
Power Station, raised £630 through a sponsored football match on April 8.
The first £5,000 raised went to CRY for research
and bereavement support.
Now Sue, who is married to Michael, 53, an
engineer, is focusing on raising enough money to fund mobile road shows
offering screening.
She is gearing up for a second fundraising night
at the Billingham Synthonia Club on June 24.
The event, from 7pm - midnight, includes an Indian
buffet and chilli, a raffle and three live acts - including Teesside band
'So What?' and country and western singer Andy Brown.
It's hoped that another female musician is soon to
be confirmed. Tickets cost £10 each and can be bought by emailing
sainsworth@hotmail.com or by
phoning 07725 530632.
