Footie team take on celebrities for charity

The Argus  - 7th July 2006

Legendary ex-Arsenal footballers and celebrities are taking on Eastbourne United Veterans in a one-off charity match.

Players set to take the field include former Arsenal player Brian Hornsby, former England international Steve Williams and television stars Ralph Little from the royle Family, EastEnders' Joe Swash and Ground Force's Tommy Walsh.

The event is due to take place on August 13 at the Oval in Channel View Road, Eastbourne.

The ultimate goal is to raise money for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry), which is supported by Arsenal and aims to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome, which commonly affects people under the age of 25.

Local businesses are now being urged to help raise money by sponsoring the event which can be done for as little as £150 and there is also a range of advertising opportunities.

Eastbourne United Veterans are actively involved in charity work and to date have raised £11,000 for a range of charitable organisations.

Other attractions on the day will include a penalty shoot-out competition, face painting, a raffle with prizes including signed football memorabilia, and a display by Sussex Ambulance Service.

Those wishing to sponsor the match should call Barry Winter on 01323 732342 or Richard Davies on 07986 673040 or email richard@partridgeltd.co.uk
