A breast cancer survivor will tackle a gruelling
bike ride through Cuba to raise cash for charity.
Stephanie Waldron, 50, who used to live with her
family at Oxmoor, in Huntingdon, will join 40 other riders for the six-day,
320km Big Heart Bike Ride in April.
Stephanie, a cardiac rehabilitation co-ordinator
at Doddington Community Hospital in Fenland, said she is excited about her
Cuba challenge and hopes to raise money for the British Heart Foundation,
CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young,), Echo UK (The Tiny Tickers Charity), Heart
UK and Wessex Heartbeat.
"Due to my job I see people with heart problems
and what they go through," she said.
"I wanted to do something good and to help, and
this is a great way."
This is not the first time Stephanie has done her
bit for charity. She has taken on many charity runs in the past and
hopes to raise £2,700 through her first bike ride.
She has been training at her gym four times a week
in preparation for the challenge but admits it has not been easy.
"It's very different training in the gym on an
exercise bike to actually cycling outside. I'm not the best at cycling
and route in Cuba has many hills, so training has been daunting.
But the mum of two, who now lives in Benwick, has
received lots of support from her family, friends and colleagues.
Daughter Kayreen, for Huntingdon, said: "We are
very, very proud. She works Monday to Friday as well as supporting a
family, so to do this is amazing.
"Her training is going well and she has recently
cycled from Benwick to Huntingdon."
Stephanie, who was nominated for a Woman of
Coverage Award, said: "It was a lovely thought to be nominated buy very
overwhelming as I felt I didn't really do anything."
