Charity bid after death

The Sentinel - 2nd October 2006

Parents of a teenager who died suddenly in his sleep are campaigning to raise awareness of his silent killer condition.

Daniel Boughey, aged 14, died of suspected Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) hours after his family had finished filming an episode of Wife Swap for Channel 4.

There were no symptoms of the mystery illness, which happens when the electrical flow to the heart is interrupted, causing it to stop.

Mother Karen Reece, aged 35, of Alton Street, Crewe, and her husband Darren have appeared on national television in an effort to raise awareness of SADS.

The pair have launched a campaign to raise money for charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Karen said: "You never think you will lose a child.  We will never really know what happened to Daniel but CRY has helped us."
