Heart of Gold

The Sentinel -  9th April 2008

Runner Phil Butler, right, is tackling the London Marathon in memory of his 16-year-old son who died from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Nathan Butler was discovered lying on the floor of his bedroom in Hassam Parade, Wolstanton, two years ago.  The pupil at St John Fisher in Newcastle had a coronary defect which reduced the amount of blood being pumped around his body.

His father will tackle the gruelling 26-mile course to raise money for the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charity.

The 47-year-old, who hopes to raise at least £1,700, said: "This is my first full marathon and I'm quite nervous, but the whole family is coming to support me.

"I'm still looking for people to sponsor me so I would be pleased if they got in touch."

To sponsor Phil, call 07932 860 425.
