These members of York Karate Academy have been put
through their paces in aid of a good cause.
The martial arts team took part in a three-hour
karate course to raise money for - and awareness of - CRY: Cardiac Risk in
the Young.
The course covered all aspects of Shotokan Karate
and helped students improve in the build up to their grading examinations.
Instructor Paul Mendham, a fourth Dan black belt, gave a £270 cheque to the
charity.
CRY
researches the sudden death condition that seems to strike down perfectly
fit and healthy young people, many of whom are participating in sporting
activities when they are taken ill.
Meanwhile, the club also donated £50 to the Rainbow Trust charity.
The
gesture came after Andrew Hudson, a first degree black belt, raised more
than £4,500 for the Trust by taking part in a motorcycle endurance rally in
India.
Further details about the Academy are available by phoning Mendham on 01904
761 260.
