Tyrone captain Brian Dooher and Ireland rugby star
Andrew Trimble have become patrons of the leading cardiac screening charity
CRY.
And the pair have called on local young people to
'Go Get Screened.' They are the latest local sports stars to encourage
young people to get screened following the footsteps of Jonny Evans and
Graeme McDowell.
The news comes as the leading heart screening
charity has just announced details of its Spring and Summer screenings with
screenings scheduled for Jordanstown on May 14 and 15.
Welcoming the screening programme, Brian Dooher
said: "I am strongly in support of cardiac screening and I would encourage
all young people to Go Get Screened.
"We want to see young people playing sport.
We want them being the best they can be, and enjoying themselves. We
also want to encourage them to look after themselves and their health.
"We don't want to see any more young people dying
of cardiac conditions that could have been detected and treated."
Ulster star Andrew Trimble said: "I firmly believe
that all young people, should attend cardiac screening whether they are
involved in sport or not. It is important to know that you are fit to
compete in the sport of your choice. Likewise if a problem is
diagnosed, it can be treated. It is better to be safe. My
message is simple: Go Get Screened.
"We firmly believe that screening helps prevent
unnecessary loss of life. It is the most unnatural thing in the world
to lose a son or daughter, a husband or wife. Especially if the
condition is treatable. CRY's concern is to help identify cardiac risk
and ensure that young people get treatment after they have been screened."
