The second annual Run Armagh 10K Challenge will be
hitting the streets of the city at 2pm on Sunday. And a local charity
is set to benefit, with all of the money raised going to Cardiac Risk in the
Young (CRY). Race organiser Matthew Nicholson anticipates a large
entry following the success of last year's event. He has been kept
very busy over the last few months. "It's been a lot of hard work," he
said.
"Organising something of this magnitude has been
time consuming but the final pieces of the jigsaw are falling into place.
"Interest has been huge, but there are still spaces available. "There
is an entry form of the official Run Armagh 10K Challenge website -
www.runarmagh.com - as well as all
the information about race day, training plans and anything else you could
want to know. "Last year's event proved to be a great success and
entry numbers for this year are even bigger."
The headquarters for the event will be at the
Royal School, Armagh, which will also be used as a registration area where
runner will be required to sign in and collect their bib number and timing
chip.
Toilet facilities will also be available within
the school both before and after the race; the school grounds will be
available for the closest car parking to the College Hill starting line.
From College Hill the course takes athletes onto
the Portadown road, heading towards the Drummanmore and Ballybrannon Roads
before moving onto the Loughgall Road, along Railway Street and on to the
finishing line on Mall East. Generous money prises are on offer for
the top three finishers in both the Open Male and Open Female races, and
there will be additional spot prizes on the day. Participants must be
aged 15 and above on race day and be in good physical health.
