London
Marathon - 17th April 2011
The 2011 event takes place on Sunday 17th April. If you would
like to apply for a place we recommend the twin-track approach of
applying for a Ballot Place, and also for a guaranteed (or Golden Bond)
CRY place via CRunCH. Demand for Golden Bond places always exceeds the
number of places available, so this dual approach will give you the best
chance of getting a place. |

English Channel Charity Swim
Chris
Walsh, 19, from Taunton, has decided to take on the challenge of attempting to
swim the Channel for charity. He is hoping to do this between the 14th and the
21st of September this year. There are a number of challenges posed by
attempting to swim the channel. These aren't just the physical effort of
swimming 21 miles, but also the challenge of remaining in the cold water of the
channel for a number of hours. Chris is raising money to support CRY as he
feels that it is a charity that is doing fantastic work alerting young people -
particularly sportspersons - to the risks of Sudden Death Syndrome. You can
sponsor Chris at
www.chriswalshchannelswim.co.uk - this is also his training blog where
updates are posted detailing his training and any updates relating to the
precise date of the swim are posted. |

Lands' End to John O'Groats bike ride in memory of
Amanda McCarthy
"Dave Bentley and I - with support from Colin Nadin -
will be setting off
on a 900 mile plus bike ride from Lands' End to John O’Groats. Our route will
allow us to visit two trees that I have had planted as living memorials for
Amanda - one on the
Somerset/Devon border and one in the Lake District. Here we will stop and
remember all the great times we had with Amanda, and also reflect on how, in her
memory we can help other families who may be struggling to cope with the
crushing loss of a child or young adult!
Contributions would be most helpful to CRY,
and can be made at

Namibia Project
Namibia is one of the few places on earth where the natural
environment rules supreme. This is the land of the famous desert
elephant, as well as black rhino, giraffe, zebra, springbuck,
oryx, kudu and hyena. The area is vast and children can travel a
long way, primarily by foot, to attend the A. Gariseb Primary
School, which offers hostel facilities that can accommodate up
to 200 pupils.
Whilst some previous renovations have been made to the school
buildings, many of them are still in a state of disrepair, and
any further renovations will greatly improve the learning
environment and be of real benefit to the children. Previous
experience is not essential, but a willingness to help out with
manual work is required. |

your huskies is key. You will be expected to look after your own
team of dogs, keeping them well fed and watered, and helping
them to navigate some of the steeper sections. The
nature of the event means that it is run with a relatively small
