Upcoming Events

There are a number of fundraising events held each year, each providing different challenges to the individual or team.  (see list of events)

Some are on a set date like the London Marathon, while others, such as parachute jump or white water rafting, can be arranged at your convenience. Some are Memorial events organised by supporters of CRY, while others are offered by professional fundraising organisations.  There are also some overseas fundraising challenges!

The Ray Wilkins 3 Charities Golf Experience - Foxhills Club & Resort, Surrey

The Ray Wilkins 3 Charities Golf Experience is looking for teams of three to enter this celebrity golf event.  Each team will consist of three members of the public, plus a celebrity team captain.  The day also includes a 4 course evening meal plus entertainment.

Race Across America - The World's Toughest Bicycle Race

The 2008 Race Across America (RAAM) will feature an intrepid 4-man CRY Team!  Richard Ball, Clive Middleton, Greg Whyte (CRY Trustee) and Mat Wilson will tackle the 3000-mile cycle race, aiming to ride up to 500 miles EVERY DAY.  The team have their sights set on a top 3 finish in the event, and also hope to raise lots of money and awareness for CRY.  Click here to sponsor the CRY Team

2nd Annual SheRunsHeRuns Bluewater 10k

On Sunday 15th June, over 5,000 fun runners will take to the roads surrounding Europe’s largest retail and leisure destination - Bluewater Shopping Centre - for the 2nd annual SheRunsHeRuns Bluewater 10K.

Win Tennis Gala Dinner

The second annual Win Tennis Gala Dinner, once again in support of CRY.  Hosted by Andrew Castle - GMTV presenter and former GB Davis Cup player.  The event will be held in the beautiful Riverside Room, Savoy Place, with spectacular uninterrupted views of the Thames from St Paul’s to the Houses of Parliament.

Evening event featuring dinner, dancing and an auction / raffle. Tickets are £40 per head which will get you a 4 course dinner with 2 glasses of wine, bar until 12.30am and dancing until 1.00am. Deposit of £10 per person will need to be paid ASAP and balance by Saturday 17th May.

Abseil at Kings College Hospital

Ace Fundraising is organising an Abseil at Kings College Hospital on Sunday 6th July.  CRY has reserved a limited number of places for this event.  To book your place, a deposit of £20 is required and we would like participants to try and raise at least £100 for CRY.  Experienced abseil instructors will supervise the event, and First Aid facilities will also be on hand.  Please email cry@c-r-y.org.uk for more information.

CRY Patron Kathryn Harries will once again lead CRY supporters on the walk, crossing 8 London bridges - each bridge representing one of the 8 fit and healthy young people (aged 35 and under) who die suddenly each week in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.  Book online by clicking here

The Great British Duck Race

Adopt a small plastic duck (or several!) to support CRY, and cross your fingers as it joins 250,000 other plastic ducks in a race down the River Thames.  There are 30 prizes up for grabs, with a top prize of £10,000 for the winning duck!

Lewis Marsh Football Tournament and ECG testing

Howard Jennings Memorial Golf Tournament
Keeley Ashley has organised the annual event since her brother, Howard Jennings, died from heart failure four years ago at the age of 33. Keeley has raised more than £25,000 since the family tragedy.

"The Black and Blue Ball" Charity Black Tie Ball - Dulwich Common, London

Old Alleynian Rugby Club's "Black and Blue Ball" is a Charity Black Tie Ball, hosted in a marquee on Old Alleynian's picturesque grounds near Dulwich Common, and is being held to raise money to support both the rugby club and 'Cardiac Risk in the Young' - a charity chosen due to the tragic death of one of our ex-players this season, during his first match for a new club.

Adidas Women's 5k Challenge
The Adidas Women's 5k Challenge is a 5 kilometre (3 miles) fun run... or walk.... for women. It takes place in London's Hyde Park, Birmingham City Centre and Liverpool City Centre.  It is an event for women of all ages, and levels of fitness.

The Great North Run has grown in its 22 year history to become the world's biggest half marathon and Britain's biggest running event with 50,000 entries.  CRY's charity places are now all filled, but please do contact us if you are an 'own place' runner and would like to join the CRY team.

CRY Raising Awareness Week

We are looking for supporters who would consider helping us to raise awareness and funds in their local community, by manning information stalls; organising fundraising events; giving talks at clubs; distributing CRY posters for display, and so on.  We are also hoping to recruit at least 20 brave volunteers for a Parachute Jump Day on Sunday 12th October at Brackley airfield near Oxford.

New York - The Big Apple, the city that never sleeps and its up to you to make it there.  Why not join Cardiac Risk in the Young and their "heart runners"  along with two million spectators and a carnival atmosphere at the New York City Marathon?  Join over 30,000 international runners in this years New York City Marathon.

A 13-day charity cycle ride adventure exploring the amazing natural beauty of Vietnam.  Featuring 8 days of cycling, this trip will take you from traditional rice paddies, to rugged mountains, to white sandy beaches.

Big Heart Bike Ride 2008 - India

This cycle ride takes place in Rajasthan, the Land of Kings, which is India at its exotic and colourful best.  The harsh landscape and tribal customs have fashioned a people and culture which are visibly different from the rest of the country.

This event has been relocated to India due to unrest in Kenya.

The World Famous Annual Santa Run - Newtown, Wales

A 4.5 mile fun run, with all the competitors dressed as Santa Claus!  In 2004, this event set a new world record for the largest ever gathering of Santas.  Registration is £15 including free Santa suit.  All money raised by participants goes to the charity of their choice, so this is a fun and novel way to raise money for CRY.  The 2008 Santa Run will also feature a children's race and a wheelchair race.

Parachute Jump
If you have ever wanted to do a parachute jump here is your chance.  No experience is necessary as all training is given. You can jump for free if you raise a certain minimum amount of sponsorship money (amount varies by type of jump).

White Water Rafting
If you have ever wanted to have a go at white water rafting here is your chance. Teams of 6 to 8 people are required to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship for the charity and in return you will get to raft for free.

'Lost Weekend' - band available for charity events

Lost Weekend is a rock band made up of four enthusiastic mature guys who enjoy performing music together. Primarily, we play covers, although our drummer has written some songs. We play music from the 50s right through to contemporary stuff.

The Command Challenge is held each year by the Gemini Radio Charitable Trust. There are a limited number of team places open to other charities. It is a team event following the route of the commando endurance course on Woodbury Common, near Lympston, Devon.
