Upcoming Events

There are a number of fundraising events held each year, each providing different challenges to the individual or team.  (see list of events)

Some are on a set date like the London Marathon, while others, such as parachute jump or white water rafting, can be arranged at your convenience. Some are Memorial events organised by supporters of CRY, while others are offered by professional fundraising organisations.  There are also some overseas fundraising challenges!

The LifeBooster Challenge - 21 day virtual bootcamp for body and soul
Joanne Ingham, the founder of LifeBooster Coaching, created her 'virtual bootcamp' as a way of kick-starting her own training for the Great North Run (GNR) in September - which she is running to raise funds for CRY. "Cazfest" - charity music event in memory of Caroline Johnstone
The Cazfest Music Festival, in memory of Caroline Johnstone, takes place in Bishops Stortford on Sunday  5th July.  Tickets are priced at £12 each or £36 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children).  Tickets can be bought in advance online and can also be purchased on the day.

3 Peaks Challenge in Memory of Howard and Sebastian English
On 5th and 6th July 2009 a 'Fathers and Sons' team will attempt to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge in order to raise money for CRY. The team comprises of 4 dads and 5 sons (aged 17 to 18): Tony & George Bath, Dave, Paddy & Harry Cox, Mark & Tom Davies and Julian & Tom Rowe-Jones - together with our two drivers, John Berry and Andy Barton.

The Spatula Challenge - 400 mile cycle / 3 Peaks climb
Beginning on 6th July, Will and Georgina McCreadie will endeavour to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, Wales and England one after the other - and also cycle the 400 miles between the 3 peaks!  The event is to raise money and awareness for CRY and for Holidays4Heroes.

Campion Old Golfers Society annual golf day - in memory of James Patterson
Campion Old Golfers Society are holding their annual golf day at Warley Park Golf Club in Brentwood.  As in previous years, a portion of the proceeds from the day - two-thirds on this occasion - will be donated to CRY in memory of James Patterson (left)If any CRY supporters/non-members would like to enter in teams of 4 they should contact Peter Patterson on 01277 656597 for details.

Tonbridge Angels FC vs Gillingham FC pre-season friendly - Tonbridge, Kent
Roger Maddams has arranged a pre-season football friendly between Tonbridge Angels and Gillingham.  The match is in aid of CRY, and in memory of Roger's son Jack, who represented both clubs.  The game will kick off at 3pm at Tonbridge's Longmead Stadium.

Fort Dunlop - Open Abseil and Zip Wire
Events company Pinnacle Challenge Limited are running an 'open abseil and zip wire' event, where participants can choose to raise money for any charity of their choice.  If you are interested in taking part in this event to raise funds for CRY you can find full details on the Pinnacle website.

CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk
Join CRY Patron Kathryn Harries on a sponsored walk crossing the bridges of London from Embankment to London Bridge via Westminster, to raise awareness and funds for CRY.  Entry into this event is £10 per adult, with free entry for children aged 16 or under. Online registration is now open for this event

Jedi Music Festival 2009 - Victoria Park, Southport
Annual music festival held in memory of Chris Haw.  The event will feature music, comedy, climbing wall, cage soccer, healthy lifestyle advice and much more. 30% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to CRY, with the rest of the proceeds being put back into the festival to create sustainability for 2010.

Mazda London Triathlon

The world's largest triathlon, with over 13,000 entrants.  This event is being held at the ExCel centre in London.  CRY does not have any charity places in this event, but if you get your own place then we will be able to provide you with a CRY t-shirt / running vest, sponsor forms and other fundraising / sponsorship items.

Team Buzz Giro D'Italia 2009 - 1000 mile cycling challenge
The 2009 Team Buzz Giro D’Italia is a 1000 mile cycle ride from Sicily to Milan, to raise money and awareness for CRY.  As well as undertaking this challenge themselves, Team Buzz are looking for any other CRY supporters who would be willing to get involved in this year’s event - specifically cyclists to join the team and support crew to drive the vehicle, pitch tents, cook and generally organise the effort in the field.  E-mail info@teambuzz.co.uk for details.

The Doitforcharity.com run series is a collection of 5km races taking place around the UK in Spring / Summer 2009.  Over 4,000 people are expected to take part, raising funds for hundreds of different charities - and you could be among them!

'Just Bike' is an exciting sponsored bike riding event around Coate Water Country Park (near Swindon) where you and your friends can choose to participate in rides of 50km or 100km in length.

Big Heart Bike Ride 2009 - Sinai Triangle

CRY is once again one of four heart charities involved in the Big Heart Bike Ride. For 2009, the event moves to The Sinai triangle - twice the size of Belgium, and part of the Sahara Belt. The route will take in narrow wadis, colourful canyons and rugged granite mountains; camping out under the stars on two nights and finishing on the shores of the Red Sea. Highlights include a visit to the magnificent pyramids at Giza and an optional sunrise climb of Mount Sinai.

Nepal Trek
CRY are looking for adventurous volunteers for an unforgettable trek in Nepal. With arguably some of the best views in the World this trek is back on the map by popular demand.  Trekkers will experience awe-inspiring views of the great peaks and glaciers of the Himalayas, and the trek also takes participants through mountainside villages and thick forest.

The World Famous Annual Santa Run - Newtown, Wales

A 4.5 mile fun run, with all the competitors dressed as Santa Claus!  In 2004, this event set a new world record for the largest ever gathering of Santas.  Registration is £10 including free Santa suit.  All money raised by participants is split equally between Newtown and District Dial A Ride and a charity of the runner's choice - so could be a fun and novel way to raise money for CRY.  Applications can be made from 1st August 2009 by calling 01686 622 566.

The public ballot for places in the 2010 London Marathon has now closed but CRY does have a limited number of 'Golden Bond' guaranteed entry places. These places are assigned to CRY supporters who pledge to raise a certain minimum amount of sponsorship money in return for the place.  You can register for a CRY 'Golden Bond' charity place at www.crunch.org.uk/CRY - this website has been open for applications for some time, so any new applicants will be added to a wait list to be considered later in the Spring / early Summer. 'Just Walk' is an exciting sponsored walking event over the South Downs in West Sussex where you and your friends can choose to participate in walks of 10km, 20km, 40km or 60km in length.

CRY are looking for adventurous volunteers for an unforgettable trek in Nepal. If you have ever wanted to do a parachute jump here is your chance.  No experience is necessary as all training is given. You can jump for free if you raise a certain minimum amount of sponsorship money (amount varies by type of jump).

White Water Rafting
If you have ever wanted to have a go at white water rafting here is your chance. Teams of 6 to 8 people are required to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship for the charity and in return you will get to raft for free.

'Lost Weekend' - band available for charity events

Lost Weekend is a rock band made up of four enthusiastic mature guys who enjoy performing music together. Primarily, we play covers, although our drummer has written some songs. We play music from the 50s right through to contemporary stuff.

Fire Walk 
Fire walking - walking barefoot over red hot coals is the ultimate test of mind over matter. You can face your fears by joining the charity fire walking challenge. A truly unique experience not to be missed!

Commando Challenge
The Command Challenge is held each year by the Gemini Radio Charitable Trust. There are a limited number of team places open to other charities. It is a team event following the route of the commando endurance course on Woodbury Common, near Lympston, Devon.
