Marathon efforts to buy scanning equipment

Three former employees of a leisure centre will be running this Sunday's London Marathon in memory of a seven-year-old girl who died after a swimming lesson three years ago.

Sarah Williamson of Martock is believed to have died from Sudden Death Syndrome and the former workers at Goldenstones Leisure Centre in Yeovil are aiming to raise around £2,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Steve McDaid, Gordon Childs and Terence Brokenshire will also be doning heart costumes for the 26 mile run and their aim is to provide money for scanning equipment which would be based in Yeovil.

Brendan Harvey, who works at the Leisure centre and was due to take part in the marathon until he got injured, said the aim of CRY is to provide scanning facilities that could be used to detect heart problems in people aged under 25 in the Yeovil area.

He said: 'The scanning facilities could be based at Yeovil hospital or a surgery in the town and we would be able to scan around 80 young people each week to check for any heart problems.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to CRY can call the leisure centre on 01935 474166
