Adrian's birthday – poem by Kathryn Badon

Badon

It was Adrian’s birthday on the 8th February and I wrote a poem in memory of the day:

My dearest Adrian, Happy Birthday,
Wherever you may be,
I can’t help myself from looking
Your handsome face I hope to see.
Whilst in my mind I know you’ve left us,
Inside my heart won’t let you go,
I keep hoping I can find you
In the places that we know.
But though I keep on searching,
You simply are not there,
And it leaves me with such sadness,
That some times I cannot bear.
I remember as an infant,
Once I thought you’d run away,
A mother’s blind panic
Where is Adrian I’d say,
Only to find you sitting
Quite firmly on my hip,
When the house is full of children,
A guess a mother will sometimes flip!
How I wish this was the same my son,
Your death just wasn’t true,
I would wish you Happy Birthday
And have a hug or two,
Share a little banter,
Things back to normal once more,
And I would be quite happy,
With my son that I adore,
But nothing can change your passing
For you no phoenix ashes rise,
Just the harsh reality
Of all our sad goodbyes.
Inside my heart is broken,
Most people cannot see,
But as you passed away my son
You took a part of me.
