Dr Gemma Parry-Williams

Having qualified from The University Birmingham Medical School in 2006, Gemma gained membership to the Royal College of Physicians in 2010. Having finished her basic training in 2010, she ventured to France in pursuit of a life-long dream, where she worked at a tertiary centre as an intern in heart muscle diseases and electrophysiology. On her return she spent a year as a Cardiology Teaching Fellow, completing the Certificate of Medical Education before securing her Cardiology training number in her homeland of Wales. Her subspeciality interests include; heart failure, complex devices and inherited cardiac conditions.

Gemma was honoured to have been accepted to fulfil yet another dream of working under the supervision of consultant Professor Sanjay Sharma, undertaking higher post graduate research supported by a CRY research grant. She was delighted to be able to contribute to the crucial work of CRY as part of the national screening programme in addition to developing her knowledge of inherited cardiac conditions and sports cardiology. Gemma’s research interests include the effects of chronic endurance exercise on the heart and the veteran athlete.

When she is not pursuing her passion for cardiology, Gemma can usually be found playing field hockey, running (and ran the London marathon for CRY in 2017), snowboarding, Tai Chi, watching tennis or indulging in London’s culinary delights or attempting to cook herself!
