8-a-week postcard campaign

Postcard campaign to raise awareness in government that 8 fit and healthy young people die every week in the UK – asking MP’s to join up to the Cardiac Risk in the Young All Party Parliamentary Group as a voice for change in parliament.

In 2009 this postcard campaign became the 12 a week campaign in response to new published research to show there were at least 12 young sudden cardiac deaths every week in the UK.

15th July 2004

CRY’s postcard campaign was launched in the House of Commons. The last of 12 regional postcards was launched in Scotland in March 2007. In excess of 100,000 postcards were sent to the Department of Health and 102 MPs joined the Cardiac Risk in the Young APPG. These postcards are sent to constituency MPs by CRY supporters. This campaign was designed to run in tandem with the consultation process for the new NSF chapter to ensure that young sudden cardiac death remained a focal point for consideration.

A different postcard representing 8 young deaths from each area was launched each month:

July 2004 – Midlands

August 2004 – South West

September 2004 – North East

October 2004 – South

November 2004 – North West

January 2005 – Wales

February 2005 – South East

March 2005 – North

May 2005 – Northern Ireland

July 2005 – East

October 2005 – West

March 2007 – Scotland
