Almost 300 delegates attended an intense, informative and interactive event, held in Central London, sharing the very latest developments in sports cardiology as part of the EAPC Sports Cardiology Course.

Profiling the work, research and academic achievements of former CRY Research Fellow, Dr Joyee Basu, who has now returned to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where she is working as a final year cardiology registrar and continues to advocate for the benefits of cardiac screening and cardiac rehabilitation to help people with a heart condition get back to regular exercise.

The academic – and interactive – event at the Royal Society of Medicine, as part of the esteemed “Medicine and Me” series (an ongoing programme of meetings which aim to provide an outline of current best practice and future updates around important health conditions).
CRY’s Research Fellows – both past and present – spend much of their time writing and submitting manuscripts based on their projects as well as travelling to UK and international conferences to present their key findings and to lead discussions which help to further the understanding of the causes of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD)

The impact of exercise and physical activity on young people living with a heart condition is an issue that often comes up at myheart meetings or is discussed amongst our members
Recently, two important research reviews – spearheaded by doctors who both have an association with CRY’s research programme – have been published in Heart (the journal of the British Cardiac Society) to help ‘unpick’ some of the myths regarding physical activity and inherited heart conditions and to clarify whether exercise really can be the best medicine.
