The 9th Dan Hughes memorial cricket and family fun day was help on Sunday the 13th of July at Audley Cricket club in North Staffordshire.
The sun shone on us again and the local community turned out in their hundreds to support the event and help us to raise money for Dan’s memorial fund. As well as our normal attractions of Bouncy castles, children’s play area, the Hitmix Roadshow and a BBQ etc we were joined by a fire engine from the Staffordshire Fire and rescue service. We also had the local 6th form college, members of the Staffordshire moorlands motor cross club with a few of their motorbikes, and an area where people could try their hands at Jedi warier training. The cricket went on throughout the day with the hosts Audley running out eventual winners. We also had raffles and auctions going on with a main prize of £1,000 worth of travel vouchers which was won by Laurence Gibson, pictured with Dan’s sister Kim.
The highlight of the day was a flypast from a Battle of Britain memorial flight Spitfire which we arranged to mark the 10th anniversary of Dan’s death. It was a very special moment for us as a family and one which was enjoyed by everyone who saw it. The day raised £7,000 for Dan’s memorial fund, thank you to everyone who supported with raffle prizes etc and those who gave up their time to help us out leading up to, and on the day itself.
