Starting the new year, I wanted to challenge myself and set a new goal, throw myself into something completely new and unknown. Former commonwealth champion ‘Neil Simpson’ had been training me one to one for fitness classes at ‘Toe 2 Toe’ boxing gym in Coventry. Neil mentioned about the big charity show taking place in ‘Willenhall Social Club’ on March the 14th 2020 which I usually purchase a ticket and show my support.

A couple of months before fight night, I found out that Matt’s family was raising money to enable heart scanning for young adults in risk due to underlying heart conditions. After hearing about this fundraiser, I wanted to give something back and help in anyway possible to allow them to hit their target requirement. I felt taking part in this boxing event was a brilliant way to raise money for the cause, and to push my own boundaries.

On March the 14th, I raised a whopping £370 for Matt Gore’s memorial fund via Cardiac Risk In The Young, as-well as selling tickets which contributed to two amazing charities close to the boxing club ‘Scleroderma and Raynaud’s UK’ and ‘Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’. On top of the donations, I got my first victory which is just the icing on top against a top opponent ‘John Leonard’ from Stoke. It was one hell of a battle, and we both gave it our all, I have nothing but respect for the guy…

I would like to say a massive thankyou to everyone for the support and donations, I am so humbled and grateful. This money really could save a life and make a difference, and thats what this is all about…

Matthew Gore was a inspiring person, I am absolutely honoured to have known him. On a personal note, if it wasn’t for Matt my university experience would never have been the same, he always looked out for others and had so much kindness. Going 3 rounds was the least I could do for him, and I know he was with me every step of the way in that ring…

I cant thank Toe 2 Toe, Neil Simpson and Clel Sneddon enough for the opportunity and support they have given me. These guys put so much work into these events, if you ever get a chance to attend a show, please do you will not regret it, absolutely amazing work. It was a honour to fight for such a great club. Finally I would also like to say a massive thank-you to all of the fighters at the club who have welcomed me with open arms, and helped me on this journey. I have made so many new friends and have made some memories I will always cherish…

Here’s to the next challenge…
