Laura West
Laura was a fit and healthy individual, a medic in the British Army regularly doing exercise and completely full of life.
Friday 16th April 2021 – a day that started like any other. She later came home from work and in the afternoon she went for a swim, something she had done that week on the Wednesday too – but this day would be different.
At the end of her swimming session, nearly completing her 1hr slot, Laura suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
Despite the best efforts of the lifeguards, ambulance crew, air ambulance, doctors, nurses and countless others she was sadly unable to be saved. At the age of 29 her heart stopped forever.
It has now come to light she had an underlying and hereditary heart condition, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC).
Through CRY we are now raising funds in Laura’s memory to hold screenings, raise awareness and fund research so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. No family, partner or friends should have to go through the suffering of losing a young person from this world.
