On Saturday 30th November, The Gobstoppers Glee Club sang their hearts out in a charity concert – “Keep Calm and Sing Your Heart Out” – in aid of CRY. The evening was held at Berkhamsted School, who donated use of their beautiful Dean’s Hall for the event, which raised £1700 for CRY.

“It was a brilliant night of dancing and singing, with an enthusiastic audience of over 150 supporters who danced the night away to the songs.

“The whole evening was electric and the atmosphere was magic, I am so proud of the singers” said Chris Williams, who produces the Glee Club Singers with his wife Victoria, who is also a West End vocal coach for ‘Matilda’ the musical.

The Glee Club sang 20 songs in full harmony with their live band, which ranged from Jessie J to ABBA. The evening was also supported by some of the younger members of the Gobstoppers Theatre Company who opened the show.

The charity was chosen by Glee member and Berkhamsted School’s boarding house matron, Sharon Elliot, who was one of many of the Berkhamsted School community who were affected by the sudden death of school pupil Harry Faulkner last year.

The evening was also attended by Nicky and Paul Merriman from Hemel Hempstead, who also lost their son in his sleep to an unexpected heart condition.

Nicky gave an emotional tribute to her son, which highlighted the importance of the event.

The group was set up two and a half years ago by the Gobstoppers Theatre Company’s Victoria and Chris Williams, who run the theatre company for children at Gable Hall in Berkhamsted.

“Since we started our Glee Club in 2011, we have raised over £5000 for charity and will continue raising money while enjoying ourselves singing, every Thursday evening.”
